Game Information

Release Date: April, 2004
Developer: Infogrames
Publisher: Hasbro
Platform(s): Windows, Mac OS
Genre: Adventure, Puzzle
Players: 1

Synopsis

Take charge of 12 different heavy-duty TONKA trucks and help TONKA JOE build a city, pave desert roads, design a snow-capped mountain resort or dig in a quarry and discover valuable treasures! Best of all you decide what buildings to make, how they look and where to put them. Plus, take out unwanted buildings with 4 different demolition modes! Help is always available from the friendly TONKA team members, but the final results are up to you and your imagination.

Gameplay

In this game, that is designed for children, you get to control a dozen heavy-duty construction trucks such as dumptrucks, cranes, concrete trucks and a few others that will complete the designated objectives that your superior will be constantly telling you what they are. These objectives vary from putting together a building to pour concrete in the desert to build a highway. Other ones include putting together cities, parks, and turning lakes into houses. Most of these missions take place in cities or suburbs with a few exceptions that include deserts and mountain ranges with a ton of snow. Since the game isn't really that complicated and is more about learning than anything else, there is only one game mode. This mode will take you through these places and teach you how certain things are done in the construction field.

Graphics

Although the graphics aren't really important here, they are definitely better than most during that time. The areas where you are working are all highly detailed and the weather effects look excellent which makes the lighting and shadowing spot on. Each truck is also very detailed down to the scratch marks and dirt piling up on the tires to the concrete dripping out. The civilians walking around, however, lack all of this. When you see their faces, they are very bland and don't even have a face, they're just a flat color (besides your superior in the upper right corner). The framerate runs extremely well considering there really isn't anything to make it not.

Controls

Considering this game is designed for children, the control layout is very simple. Only a few buttons are needed since the vehicles will control themselves for the most part. These four buttons will control the movements of the unique feature of whatever truck you are in. And the space bar will activate it.
