Synopsis:

Medal of Honor: Frontline is the fourth game in the Medal of Honor series, and was published by EA Games. The player character in the game is that of Lt. Jimmy Patterson, from the American OSS. Frontline takes place during the events of the first game and chronicles Patterson's journey as he fights his way across Europe into Nazi Germany during World War II. Frontline was released in North America for the PlayStation 2 on May 28, 2002 and for the Xbox and GameCube consoles on November 10, 2002. In 2010, an HD remake of the game was included in the "Limited Edition" PlayStation 3 version of Medal of Honor.

Story:

Welcome to Medal of Honor Frontline, you play as Lieutenant James Patterson. You start out with James storming Omaha Beach, As you and your squad rush onto the beach everyone around you is getting shot and all you can hear is bullets whistling past your head. As you finally get to a small trench you regroup with your squad and get ready to take the hill side. As you try to get through the barbwire the enemy notices you and starts shooting you and your squad. As you finally get a chance to take the hill you and your squad rush into the bottom of one of the bunkers and begin your assault on the bunker. As you make your way up you will face countless number of enemies as they try to stop you from getting to the top of the bunker, but once at the top you look down onto the beach and see the rest of the soldiers pushing forward and finally taking the beach. As this day is over for you and your squad your adventure is just beginning for you as you start your march and get ready for the battles that lie ahead of you.

Gameplay:

Medal of Honor Frontline is one of the older games from the series and is based around the WWII era. You start out with you assaulting Omaha Beach which is extremely intense and really give you a good intro into the game. The game has a pretty good storyline which will really get the person playing sucked into the game especially with the first level throwing you right into a huge fire fight. As you progress through the game it is full of action and a lot of things you do not see in today's first person shooter (FPS) games. This game is one of my favorite games from my childhood and I think it is also for a lot of older gamers. Though this game is a bit older the game play is still fun to play today. I personally think the campaign is good with the exception for a few levels that are just crazy hard. This game does a good job of making the player feel like they are in a big battle at times with you fighting a bunch of enemy AI you also get a lot of friendly AI for most missions in the game. There is also quite a big selection of weapons the player can use or pick up during missions that will change your play style to adapt to the gun you are using. There are some things I do not like about this game which is the aiming, they make it pretty hard to aim at times when there are explosions going on which I understand they are trying to make it realistic but I think at times it is way to over done because the enemies seem to never be effected by this issue when you are. The enemy in this game are actually pretty easy to take out though when you can actually aim at them. But once you decide to go up in the difficulty this is when it becomes extremely ridiculous trying to kill enemies with it getting to the point with me shooting a enemy AI with a shotgun and they get back up and act like I never shot them. The other issue I do have is there are a variety of missions which is good but there are a few that are pretty much the same type of thing and get pretty repetitive after a while. I do like some of the missions with you being able to disguise yourself as a enemy and enter a very high security building. Overall I do really enjoy the storyline for this game and think it really makes the game really good. The game play for this game is quite good and I do enjoy it the only issues I have really is the aiming when there is a lot of explosions going on. Even though this game is old I think anyone would still enjoy playing this game still today and I do recommend it to anyone especially if you have never played it.

Graphics:

The graphics for Medal of Honor Frontline are honestly nothing to impressive in today's gaming world but are quite impressive for the release date of the game. Attention to detail is one of my biggest things when it comes to video games and unfortunately this game did not impress me at all with any detail. Now besides the guns which are pretty detailed the rest of the game is lacking that little extra push of detail to make it look a lot better. But detail is not all of it I do think the AI looked pretty good and seemed to move well without really any issues. I think the atmosphere was done really well really getting the player involved with the game and making it quite intense for the person playing at times. The colors seem to all mix pretty well I think too I did not notice anything that looked off or I thought needed to be changed. Overall the graphics do make the game playable and are quite decent but detail is lacking a bit which is a bit disappointing personally for me. I think any gamer though would not mind these graphics and would still play the game. The atmosphere of this game does look good and I think was well done. It does do a really good job of making it feel like you are in a battle.

Controls:

The controls for Medal of Honor Frontline are really just your basic first person shooter (FPS). The control layout is really easy to learn and memorize after playing the game for a few minutes. I personally did not find anything wrong with the controls and thought they fit the game pretty well. The only issue I have is with aiming at times which for some reason really annoyed me and actually made the game a bit frustrating to play at times. But besides that I think everything else is really well and fits the game. Overall the controls are easy to learn and retain after playing for a bit. There is a little tutorial in the game that does help with basics which I thought was pretty good so if any gamer is having issues with the controls the tutorial should help. I think anyone would be fine with the control layout and would not have any issues with it.

Overall:

Gameplay: 8.5/10
Graphics: 8/10
Controls: 9/10
Overall: 8.7/10
