Factorio

Release Date: 13/1/13 - First Alpha Build Release
Developers: Slpwnd
Platforms: PC
Genre: Sandbox, RTS
Rating: 8/10

Synopsis:
Factorio is an upcoming title by Slpwnd, The game is inspired by mods for Minecraft such as BuildCraft and Industrial Craft. Factorio is a game where you a thrown into a hostile world with nothing but a simple tool for mining and its up to you to harvest raw materials and turn them into a efficient automatic factory to help you build your defenses against waves of the hostile natives.

Plot:
The games focuses on a man who crashed landed on a planet his original brief was to prepare an alien planet for human colonists. The only problem the planet is covered in aggressive creatures which do not like his arrival.

Gameplay:
When I first heard about factorio it got me really excited and when I got my hands on a copy it made really excited and I put about 40 hours into it. I still don't know how to feel about this game, I find the game incredibly challenging and interesting but It takes a long time to get anything done. You can spend 12 hours on this game and still have a pretty basic setup due to the shear about of content. Also for a game in alpha its oddly Bug Free.

So gameplay while on easier difficulty the game is somewhat of a game you can just spend hours in making a nice factory it is not nearly as good as when it is played on a harder difficulty due to the lack of attacks from the native creatures. While for some people this is a good thing it ruins one of the main aspects of the game which is to defend yourself from the natives and destroy the Hives. When you first enter the game you are placed in a topdown view with a little spaceman under your control depending on your difficulty you may get killed as soon as you spawn or if you are on an easier difficulty you will have to go and start mining the basic materials which are Iron,Copper,Stone and coal. The first thing you ought to do is automate coal production by using the starting supplies as its really important early game until you can electricity.

While the game is still full of features there are still a significant lack of some the main one being Multiplayer. While this game would make a great multiplayer game it is still yet to be implemented but the developers did state that they were looking into adding a multiplayer mode (I hope they do create one as the game feels like it should be).

Graphics:
While this game isn't that visually stunning it is still pretty in its own right. The graphic style it has suits the game fairly well but would be nice if the textures were slightly higher res.

Controls:
The controls for this game are very simple W,A,S,D move your character Up,Down,Left And Right and left click destroys and object and right click places and interacts with objects. All of the controls are pretty standard and are easy to understand and generally don't have a fault.

Personal Feedback:
I really enjoy this game but it does take a large amount of time to get anywhere interesting but later on the game gets really fun and can get intense when you play on a hard difficulty and you get attacked by a large wave of natives. My main complaint is the lack of Multiplayer I think I would enjoy this game alot more early game due to the fact It would shorten the time to get to the good part. Overall I am happy with my investment in this game and I am sure they will implement alot more features (Hopefully Multiplayer)
