Game Information
Name: Crash Bandicoot
Genre: Platform
Release Date: August 31, 1996
Developers: Naughty Dog
Publishers: Sony Computer, Entertainment America
Modes: Single-player
Console(s): Playstation One, Playstation Network

Plot
The story to this game is quite simple but definitely not uninteresting. The game begins with the evil mastermind Cortex mutating animals to create an army of mutated animals for himself. He accidentally fails an experiment on a Bandicoot and banishes him thinking no more about the matter. The player then takes over control of the banicoot who is called Crash. Crash wants to return to the castle and defeat Cortex and save the female bandicoot he has imprisoned in the castle. Crash Bandicoot begins to travel to the castle through jungles and temples fighting off wild animals and mutated animals on the way across three islands until he reaches the castle. When Crash reaches the castle he defeats Cortexs top scientist and manages to destroy the power source of the castle, eventually burning it down. He then proceeds to get on Cortexs escape aeroplane and knock him off of it, saving the female bandicoot and preventing Cortex from raising his army of mutated animals.

Gameplay
Crash Bandicoot has the player control Crash through a set route, fighting off wild animals with multiple different attacks, jumping over pits and defeating members of Cortexs army. Throughout the game, the player can collect fruit which give the player and extra life when one hundred pieces of fruit are collected. When the player loses a life, he/she restarts from the closest checkpoint and continues to play till the end of the level or until he runs out of lives when he must start the level from the very start. Throughout the game, players can also collect gems which can be used to unlock secret areas of previous levels. The gameplay mostly consists of jumping and moving around in the limited space to pass or defeat enemies and reach the end of the level.

Graphics
When this game was first released the graphics were considered to be the best graphics released for a video game up to date on any console, ever. This was definitely one of the factors which made the game so popular and caused so many copies to be sold. The animated graphics were very bright and colourful which made the game very attractive the children and the state of the art graphics made it very appealing to older gamers to. Nowadays the graphics would not be considered as anything special, but when this game was released, the graphics really were a star point of the game.

Controls
The controls for this game are very simple and only really consist of running, jumping and sliding. Only one joystick can be used and the camera angle is controlled by the console, which sometimes makes gameplay quite difficult as it was not perfected before the games release. The controls were quite a let down compared to the other factors of the game and could possibly be described as too easy.

Ratings (Personal)

This will always be my favourite game of all time (tied with Spyro the Dragon that is). It was my first game for the original ps1. I loved it so much, I used to get out of school and play it for hours on end.

Great review on the game, it looks like you covered everything

I can't tell you how many fun times I had on Crash Bandicoot, this game specifically, and all Crash games always make me reminisce.
Not only all of the Crash games, but the Spyro games as well. Good review, brought me back.
