Having troubles connecting to any server, getting server outdated etc.. this is because the server you are on has not been updated to the newest version of minecraft.
I also had the same problem and haven't been able to connect to any servers that i could find. Searching everywhere I could to find an answer when I came across a youtube video where you can downgrade or upgrade all by pushing one simple button.
This is the tool download link - [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (yes it's an exe and yes i was abit unsure on downloading, i tested it anyway no viruses or any other problems.)
Step by Step instructions.
1. Make sure minecraft is not open.
2. Download the tool needed for this downgrade.
3. Run the tool and wait, accept that you agree the terms of use.
4. click what version ( 1.5 1.4 etc..)
5. Click patch client and wait for the bar to complete update.
6. Open minecraft and sign in.
7. If done complete you will have the version you need at the top left of your screen.
Here is mine on 1.5 i downgraded from 1.6

I have found a easier way for this Dale.
It's a site where you can select the version you want and it gives you the JAR file.
I like it better.

first off all there is a easy way for this just go to
MC.downgrader.net
and click what version you want to downgrade 2 and it will downgrade you to that version
