First off, apologies to those I may offend if this refers to you in anyway. But I couldn't stand just seeing one after another of these effortless topics. Shortly after the first 3 reporter badges were handed out, a few new users arrived on the scene in the gaming news/trailer prefixes. Seeing the increase or "spam" I would call it of gaming news/trailers was a positive thing to see. But I noticed several flaws that were being consistent with one another. Not trying to single out anyone before all hell breaks loose so please no lashing towards me before I get Mama maDz to drill your ass into the dirt for messing with her beloved son. Alright, enough of the jokes, lets get into this shall we?

Reason 1: Use the SEARCH BAR before posting your gaming news/trailer topics. I had to report 3-4 topics in the gaming prefix because I already had posted said news days prior. I don't see a reason to have multiple gaming news topics covering the same exact subject. And just because the title of yours in different to someone else's, doesn't mean they are different from each other. Don't understand the concept behind that but OK. How hard is it to type in certain keywords in the title of the news into the search bar to see if it's already been posted about?

Reason 2: Plagiarizing. How the hell are you gonna copy and paste a gaming news article or even a trailer with a description that was typed up by another person and not link the source? If your making news topics and not linking a source of where you got said info from, IT'S FAKE NEWS!!! Submitting a game trailer topic with info that someone other than you wrote up and not link the source, why do you gotta steal someone's credit? You think you would be worthy of praise if you wrote every topic in your words? An impressive feat nonetheless but less than 1% would actually even attempt doing that. It takes no more than 10 seconds to link a source, stop being lazy.

Reason 3: Quality This is a big one as I'm reading said gaming news and all there is copy and pasted information slapped on top and submitted. No tidying, images, quotations, etc. Am I ready a fictional novel? That just shows pure laziness and sole purpose is to getting the Reporter badge. I can tell you one thing, spamming half-ass low quality gaming news/trailers topics won't get you closer to achieving it, that's for damn sure. Look back on my, Tom's and even Mikey's topics in those prefixes, we didn't shit post on these prefixes with the incentive of just getting the badge and be done with it. We still continue to post quality news/trailers with the same effort put in before the badge was awarded to us. With what we set up to getting the badge, should be a guide to everyone aiming to achieve the Reporter badge.

*Again, if you think I'm singling you out, imagine if I linked said reason with the topic in question. That would be singling out.*

I don't know much about that section so these suggestions might already be a reality, but for the ones which are plagiarized - at the very least - there should be some countermeasure in place where every article has to be verified as original before the badge is given out, and at the very most they should be warning worthy.

And do the low quality ones actually count towards the badge?
I would have thought there would be a certain standard of quality that needed to be hit on every topic before the badge was awarded?

I got a good idea on who it is. i can tell the quality from quantity when it comes to comparing yours and theirs.

I guess i'm more of a picture guy then a reading guy.

I agree completely even in the News section you see it sometime's. Sometime's, only sometime's I see short wrote post's which at first seem like spam but actually alot of effort went in but when people are just slapping up the first thing they see when it's already been covered that annoys me most. Think i've done it once or twice with site idea's and I felt like an idiot afterward's when I found out.

People spamming for a badge need to rethink their strategy.

The same thing happens in the News Forum section sometimes. What's even more angering are vague and lazy replies to a certain news story.

I'm sure this is just some people's way of trying to acquire that Reporter badge; little do they know that the posts have to be of high quality to even get close to acquiring that badge. I'm sure the admins of the site take notice of this, seeing as how it doesn't seem to be an easy task to get that badge.

For posting game reviews, the user Halo (maybe a few other staff members too) check to see if what you typed up is copied from another site. When I did my review for NieR:Automata, I mentioned that I had posted before on Steam Reviews, linked my actual Steam Review and it still was rather different in a lot of parts, so it got approved. I think Gaming News should be the same as the Gaming Review forums are in terms of a check for copy paste posts, but at this point, I feel it would just add to the headache staff already have to deal with.

Touching the subject on low quality, that's probably a subjective area. I know for PC Master Race, the few people who have it are actual PC nerds who when typing a reply put for the most part paragraphs into their reply that has way more information then was asked for (not a bad thing) and will actually help people with their posts/topics. So they worked for it with actual high quality posts, besides, that forum seems like you can't shit post in there which is great. Reporter seems like it can be achieved with low quality posts, so long as the thanks and upvotes are showing that [x] person is contributing to that forum and a lot of people are "liking it", even if it's replies such as "game looks good" "I'll have to try it out" "doesn't look to interesting, I might get it though" or if it's just a circlejerk group going around "boosting" each other to getting closer for Reporter. I can't speak on other forums such as the Sports or Rocket League forum. The sports forum I would imagine would be inclined to high quality posts, because sports fans in general can get over the top and I'm sure shit posting in that forum would be the center of hate for a little bit lol. Gaming News, the few times I've been in there, seems to just be a badge boosting forum, which would then see a decline of postings by some members, until more people who want the badge jump onto it. There's been some high quality posts in that forum, but the low-quality posts greatly pass the high-quality posts from certain users.

Edit: Don't know how the gaming forum is looking now as of topics, when the prefix was first added, seemed all over the place. Just the recent influx of comments showing on the "recent posts" sidebar, has made me believe there is some shit posting going on in there, like all other forums have been seeing.

This is not just in that section.

The tutorial section is full of no indepth detailed achievement guides just videos and all the game achievements.

Anybody can watch a video.
Do a step by step text guide then add a video to the end if someone gets stuck.

Some tutorials are getting accepted that have been in the section for 2-3 years just with a different title.

People do not take the time to use the search bar before submitting, they just want the damn badges

I to find this issue to be obscure.

Its an effortless attempt at gaining attention without giving credit where it is due.
