A hot topic in politics currently is offering free college. I have a different view. How about instead of offering free college eliminate core classes. Core classes are waste and don't even apply to your major in any way. By eliminating core classes people would not have as many classes to pay for and even better than that it would allow people to jump directly into their major without wasting their time taking core classes. If college were to be free the government would have to pay for it and they would still have to obtain that money one way or another. By eliminating core classes I see it as a win win.

(I just don't see the point of core classes. I feel it is restricting me because I know exactly what I want to major in but instead I am forced to take classes that have little to no beneficial factor to me and I have to take them before I can even proceed in what I want to pursue.)

What do you guys think?

Core classes are needed to move on to other classes in certain circumstances. For example, I attend college in Illinois, and am majoring in Biology. I took 197 last semester but I can't go on to the next level until first semester of next year because I need to complete the math class that I am taking in order to advance. Also it is nice to get some common knowledge and skills from core classes.

Core classes are needed. You need to understand the basics in core classes to be able to understand higher level thinking in next level classes. Good idea though.

No.

This would cost just Washington state 125 million dollars. When I say Washington state, I mean the tax payers. Let's look into this. Residents of Washington pay an annual total price of $15,122 to attend Edmonds Community College on a full time basis. This fee is comprised of $4,000 for tuition, $9,630 room and board, $1,030 for books and supplies and $462 for other fees. So, $15,122 divided by 12 months comes out to $1,260 each month, or $315 each week, or $45 a day. Minimum wage in Washington state is $9.47. so $45 divided by $9.47 comes out to having to work 4.75 hours a day at a minimum wage job. That's just paying outright and not having any debt when your done, but you could always take out a 10 year loan or something.

That's not what we're talking about though, we're talking about JUST tuition which is $4,000 for the year. That comes out to $333.33 per month, $83.33 per week, and $11.90 per day. With the minimum wage at $9.47, you'd only have to work 1.26 hours each day at minimum wage to afford tuition. Again though, that's paying outright.

If you can't get off your lazy ass and do that, you don't deserve to go to college. If it's too hard for you, then you're taking too many classes. Right now I have a friend that has two part time jobs AND is doing community college. It can be done.

I would have to disagree with you because you will need the basic core classes to go ahead to the next set of classes.

I agree completely tbh. Im not really sure what "Core Classes" are but Here we have " Gen Eds" Which is like your math and history. Pointless stuff tbh. The more important classes like coding and stuff for my major is all I want haha not this boring waste of money stuff. I work full time and go to college but I got lucky and got a trust fund thats paying for all my college.

I HAVE NO IDEA ON ALOT OF THE POLITICS STUFF SO DONT YELL AT ME PLEASE...

From what I heard the bernie dude wants college to be free. I dont like that idea because say Im done with college just spent my money and now this other student gets to walk right thru free of charge and gets the same degree.

My math teacher says its a good idea because then we can all work together to make the world a better place..

Same goes with minimum wage.. Why would I stay at this factory job for 15$ an hour if thier supposed to boost minimum wage way up? I wouldnt.

Their may be more to it but like I said I havent gone into depth on these politic things...

All you have to do really, many national guard guys in my platoon who only went for college. Not a bad thing, since they worked for it. Better than people doing nothing and asking for free college.

Already got my GI Bill, just paying it off which should be done in several months from now.
