As Luigi, you'll search for the keys that open the many locked doors; vacuum coins, cash, and gold bars; and explore vases, bookcases, and drawers. From the brick-walled basement to the gloomy grounds, Luigi's Mansion is packed with chills, thrills, and creepy surprises.

Plot
The game begins when Luigi receives mail stating that he has won a free Mansion from entering a contest which Luigi doesn't remember entering at all. Luigi then notifies Mario about the mansion and they both set-off towards the mansion. As Luigi got to the front area of the mansion, Mario was nowhere to be seen. Curiously, Luigi then proceeds inside the mansion without waiting for Mario. Upon entering the mansion, Luigi is then confronted by a ghost that had a key inside it and dropped it, then retreating through one of the doors in the parlor. Luigi then picks up the key and inserts in one of the doors, only to be confronted with a ghost that frightens him and is about to attack him. As the ghost closes in upon Luigi, a guy known as Professor E.Gadd uses a vacuum to suck up the attacking ghost to save Luigi. After Professor E.Gadd introduces himself to Luigi, they both retreat to E.Gadd's Laboratory to discuss further matters about Mario's whereabouts. E.Gadd tells Luigi that the mansion was built by King Boo who freed the ghost from their painting and are roaming around the entire mansion. E.Gadd then gives Luigi his vacuum and allows Luigi to go ahead and roam the entire mansion to suck up any ghost he comes by so that E.Gadd can transform the ghost into paintings.

Gameplay
The gameplay in Luigi's Mansion is eerie, scary, uneasy. Players get the uneasiness feeling when they walk into a dark room for the first time and waiting to see what creeps upon them. Players will notice that depending on the type of ghost they encounter, the ghost's attacks will vary. Some will attack straight on while others will drop bananas to disrupt the player to make them defenseless. Players will have to use the flashlight equipped with their vacuum to reveal the ghost's heart and then quickly suck them up using the vacuum to get rid of them. Upon getting rid of all the ghost in the room, the light will then turn on revealing a chest that withholds a key to another room. Some ghost will have more HP than others which would require the player to use more power to succumb stronger ghost. Apart from the typical ghost, players will stumble upon ghost that resemble human-like appearances. Players will have to be wise and resourceful to reveal these ghost's heart and then suck up these stronger and unique ghost. At certain points in the game, players will face a boss battle which players will have to be quick on how to immobilize the boss ghost and exterminate them. After defeating a boss, the player returns to E.Gadd's laboratory to put the ghost into a machine that transforms the ghost into paintings ad then accounts all the money the player collects for that particular area. Later on in the game, the player will stumble upon a dark hole in the ground which withholds the "Boos" which then disperse into areas the player has already cleared and the player is then required to go and vacuum up all Boos in the mansion.

Graphics
The graphics in Luigi's Mansion are very well detailed. Apart from the typical colored ghost which resembles a blob-like form, the human-like ghost have the greater detail on them. The facial features and models for the ghost are truly remarkable when it come to how they are shaped and designed. The textures amongst the carpet, antiques settling upon the shelves are really intriguing to view upon using the in-games camera to view the little details that are put on the little nicknacks. As for Luigi himself the polygon character is really enhanced compared its older Mario series games.
Luigi has tremendous details throughout his entire body, as well as having emotions running through him when frightened or caught off guard. Players can also see the cold breath Luigi gives off seeing as the mansion appears to be freezing. PLayers will also see that when the player moves, they can see the dust that Luigi gives off when walking on the carpet and when he knocks on a table or shelf which is a cool feature to see.

Controls
The controls are not your everyday controls you would see. Apart from the basic controls such as movement and interacting with items and such, the difficult part is when the player comes into contact with a ghost. Not only will they have to use the viewing control to shine the light upon the ghost, then they have to adept and quickly pull the trigger on the ghost to be able to vacuum them up. If your a player with a slow reaction, then your gonna have a difficult time with timing and precision since the ghost disappears after a second of being flashed with the light. Players will be able to set up the way the player will walk, as changing it to sidestep which makes the player turn slightly instead of directly behind when moving in the opposite direction for a difference approach for users to handle. The angle of the camera could be annoying if the player has their character set behind a corner of a wall as the character will fade behind it and be hard to see, so the player will have to carefully place where the angle of the camera is placed at for a more comfortable gameplay.
