After beating a boss, a black or white "door" will appear to the side. A black door indicates a "Devil" room, while a White is an angel room. In the Devil room, you will see a set of items (or chests if you are unlucky) that cost Red hearts (or blue hearts if you have zero Red Hearts) to purchase. Simply purchase 3 of these items in a single run and you will obtain Azazel. The item "the Goats Head" will guarantee a devil or angel room after each boss is defeated. Alternatively: The Card "The Joker" will warp you instantly to the rooms as well, once per floor. Sometimes touching a red chest will also warp you to a devil or angel room as well.

Note: The Items in the devil room appear to be randomized so if you get the chests, you could exit the game, reload your last save and try again to get better items, though sometimes no door will appear. Azazel is a very useful character. He starts off with the ability to fly and has a very powerful short range brimstone attack that can pass over objects. The downside is that he starts with only 3 black hearts but can gain hearts as you play.
