PC Gaming To Dominate Market In Next Few Years – Analyst

4.9
While the Xbox One, PS4 and to a lesser extent the Wii U are all battling it out in order to win the console wars, it appears the PC market is going to be winning the overall games market, at least for the forseeable future. Industry analyst DFC Intelligence is going to be presenting new research at this year’s GDC that shows that the PC market is going to be helped quite a bit by the arrival of VR.

eSports is going to be another factor in the success of the PC market though the analyst was careful to lay out that the gaming business in general is going to be quite lucrative. According to Gamesindustry.biz, the analyst is saying thatthe gaming market is going to top $100 billion in revenue by the end of 2019. This number will be led in large part by the PC, which will see $36 billion all on its own. If PC gaming does hit that number it would be a 28 percent increase from the $28 billion generated in 2015.

“A major driver of industry growth is not just software but hardware,” said DFC analyst David Cole. “The emergence of eSports and virtual reality is driving consumers to buy high end PC systems to not only play games, but watch others playing games.” It should be noted that this is hardly the first time PC gaming has been said to be dominating the market in recent years. Despite the fact that both the PS4 and the Xbox One are doing well in sales, PC Gaming was still said to be growing faster than both.

We all know PC will eventually dominate the whole market. It's only a matter of time.

PC gaming has really took off in the past few years. Once I said I would never play PC games, but now I play them more than I should!

PC Gaming has definitely surfaced hugely in the last few years, not news to me at all.

I can see this happening, I know a lot of people who already switched to PC Gaming.

You can never predict what will happen in the future especially with VR products coming out for consoles.

Miss $36B out of $100B isn't "dominating the market". Sure it's a huge portion, but it is not dominating. Dominating would be $60B+ out of that $100B.

Bit bias much?

im not sure what each consoles market share is but 36b out of 100b can be considered dominating if everything else is say like around the 20b of the market share. Like I think apple has around 40% of the phone market where the next highest is in the high 20's.

You don't need more than 50% to be dominating. You just need to be higher than everyone else by a fair bit.

Well they stated it was the console market, so they are talking about every console put together which would mean that PC still wouldnt be dominating the market, they will be dominating one manufacturer.

What PC isn't "one manufacturer' and you wouldn't place all consoles together that'd be retarded. You'd look at each individually and who ever has the highest market is clearly dominating.
