Activision has revealed in their Q4 2015 results briefing that Destiny will get a large expansion in 2016. They have also confirmed a sequel to the game will be released in 2017. Destiny’s developer Bungie had earlier talked about switching to free incremental updates with new content in 2016 but it is highly likely that the plans have changed now and they are going back to making new expansions each year along with a full scale sequel set to release in 2017.

We had heard about the delay for the Destiny sequel to 2017 in an earlier rumor reported by Kotaku. This rumor also talked about the trouble that Bungie faced during the development of Destiny and how it had an impact on delivering new content for the game throughout the year. While Bungie has struggled to create new content, it hasn’t stopped the publisher Acitivision from announcing an upcoming expansion and sequel to the game for 2016 and 2017 respectively. Destiny received its last major expansion called The Taken King in September 2015. This expansion included plenty of new content include new story missions and strikes. It also improved a lot of the original game’s frustrating design and it was received positively from majority of the critics.
