Twitter 140-Character Limit About to Change

4.8
It was reported earlier today that Twitter is looking at ways to address its 140 characters per tweet limitation, with one proposal suggesting a maximum of 10,000 characters in a single tweet. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has indicated, via a tweet, that changes will be made with the way the social media platform handles longer messages.

In his tweet, which consists solely of a screenshot of a previously written message, Dorsey acknowledges that a change is necessary because the current 140-character limitation poses a great inconvenience for users who desire to post longer tweets. It requires them to write longer messages, take a screenshot of them, and then upload them to the social media platform.

Dorsey does not explicitly refer to the recent 10,000-character report in his tweet, but he indicates that similar changes are being considered as he praises text-based tweets as an alternative to uploading screenshots because they allow users to highlight and search for written content.

While one cannot be certain what the changes to Twitter will involve, Dorsey's comment that tweetstorms—rapid and sudden increases in activity regarding a certain subject—will not be disappearing from Twitter lends credence to the previous 10,000-character report which suggested that tweets will retain their current 140-character size by default for readability and shareability purposes.

Doesn't really make sense to have a character limit so that people have to use several tweets for one message.

Not sure how i feel about this, Its annoying having to make multiple tweets in order to get a point across. But at the same time, It stops spam, On Facebook people write hundreds of paragraphs that are pointless and a waste of time.

Thank god. Sick of having to make multiple tweets to address 1 point.

This is retarded. I ditched Twitter when I couldn't avoid seeing tweets from people I DIDN'T EVEN FOLLOW (not retweets). Glad I did, lolol

10000 limit who is going to do a tweet that big unless they tell a story.
They might aswel just make it unlimited, This is going to wreck Twitter and i may stop using it for this simple reason.

TayIor Is the 10,000 Character link to Tweets because of the limit of a Direct Message [DM] on Twitter? DMs can go up to 10,000 characters, but I don't see why people would need that much room for a Tweet.

Twitter was known for using the 140 characters, that's what I liked about it. Twitter just might turn into the new Facebook.

I agree with you. Twitter is known for its short characters. I hate Facebook because of all the stories I'd see and I pretty much just like to see a summary on what people are doing.

Plus the spam from bot accounts are going to get worse now that there are going to be more characters.
Goodbye Twitter
