Apple celebrates record-breaking App Store spending over the holidays

4.6
Apple announced today that the 2015 holiday season was the most successful ever for its App Store, breaking the company's own records.

Throughout the whole of 2015, its customers spent over $20 billion on the App Store - but over $1.1 billion of that was spent on apps and in-app purchases in just the two weeks ending January 3, 2016, "setting back-to-back weekly records for traffic and purchases", according to Apple.

January 1 was the biggest day in App Store history, as customers spent over $144 million, breaking the previous single-day record which had been set one week earlier on Christmas Day.

Apple also said that it has now paid out over $40 billion to app developers, "with over one-third generated in the last year alone."

Apple will, of course, be setting aside some of all the extra cash it's been raking in lately to pay the €318 million EUR (roughly $340 million) owed to the Italian government, following an investigation into tax fraud allegations.
