Microsoft Considers Unlocking Xbox 360 Once Support Ends

4.6
Microsoft could consider the idea of unlocking Xbox 360 once its lifecycle and developers support officially ends, according to Xbox Head Phil Spencer. The news comes as Spencer himself answered a question by a fan, hinting this could be a proper option for the future of the platform.

Even though Spencer didn't offer an "official answer", he said Microsoft will have to think about it in the future "to state our plan", as you can see in the tweet below.

Unlocking Xbox 360 would allow people to turn their consoles in emulators and put them into custom cabinets, for example, but this is just one example from the many things you could do with an unlocked system.

That's not a good thing, it will wreck everyone who has bought a JTag or RGH.

Once the Xbox One has been out for a few years, not many people will be on the Xbox 360 anymore. It would be great if they unlocked the Xbox 360 sooner or later.

Cyimking By support, I assume that we are speaking about everything including online service?

Yes. The console basically becomes a brick of hardware. You can play single player on games but you will not be able to play multiplayer from my understanding. I don't even think peer to peer will work either because there is no way to tell who has an online subscription and who doesn't.

If M$ unlocks all 360's users will be able to apply the 30ms ping patch and play online on private services like xlink with out needing any subscriptions. as well as being able to make use of all the fun user created content that has been made over the years and also import pc mods into games like the elder scrolls and fallout among others. you could also run the linux on it and still make use of the hardware.

people are already doing this anyway lmao. and its point less using it for emulators just so you can put it in a arcade cab its a wast of an xbox 360 when you can just do the same with some crappy old pc and it would be easier. also if people want a unlocked xbox 360 aka a jtag/rgh they should be made to work for it like learn how to do it them self's that way they learn something for a change
