Epic forums compromised by hackers

Epic Games has contacted forum members to let them know their personal details have been compromised.

“We are sorry to report that the incident may have resulted in unauthorized access to your username, email address, password, and the date of birth you provided at registration,” the developer said.

The good news is the Unreal Engine 4, Fortnite and the new Unreal Tournament forums were not affected. Unfortunately the UDK forum was, along with the less active Infinity Blade, Gears of War, Bulletstorm and past Unreal Tournament games forums.

The forums have been taken offline and mandatory password resets will be issued when they come back up, but in the meantime members should move to protect themselves by changing any duplicate passwords.

Epic said it’s working with a security firm to investigate the hack, and will update users with more information. It also warned against phishing attempts that may result from compromised data.

It seems like more and more websites are gutting their information hacked, and stolen. At leafs this time they didn't get any credit cards or anything like that. Most of those DOB's are probably fake and email is that big of a deal, only bad if people have duplicate passwords.

Earn I've never understood why specific hackers do these types of things unless they are hired by rival companies like surely you would put your skills to good use by working for companies doing security stuff.

Maybe just for the hell of it.

I feel as if many companies have super weak security, sad thing to see for Epic. Fully confident they will get this problem adjourned quickly.

Yeah if I had the skill id put it to good use.

They're normally ex criminals that get hired by companies to do things for them...........some ex criminals are even hired by the authorities to help fight against other crimes because of how good they are at what they do
