Sony Already Working Towards The PlayStation 5?

4.3
A job opening has appeared on the official Sony PlayStation page for a “Senior Game Programmer” and it begs the question if Sony really is working on their next generation PlayStation 5 gaming console.

The job description reads:

“We have an exciting opportunity at Sony Computer Entertainment of America (PlayStation). We seek a senior game programmer to assist us in developing a game used for R&D purposes related to our next generation gaming system. For someone passionate about gaming this is a very rare opportunity. After reviewing the below job profile, if this is you, please apply! “

This does seem quite intriguing and the fact that this job has appeared recently, after 19 months to the release of the PlayStation 4, we might yet be looking at the very initial stages of the PlayStation 5.

In my opinion, It can indeed be said that the current gen consoles have seen their peak and even though it will stay that way for some time to come, the console heavyweights would be wise to start working on their next projects.

We have seen in recent times that games have been downgraded because of the fact that the consoles might not then be able to handle the game at 60fps at 1080p which is now the industry standard. The downgrades are not such a big issue as still the console have been able to handle what the developers have thrown towards them. But as much as Sony and Microsoft would want to hold onto these console, the industry is moving towards a much greater 4K and 5K standard and that is where I think the next generation of consoles(The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Two) will play their role.

With that being said, do share your views on the concept of Sony developing a next generation PlayStation 5 console.

schwarzweissx XBOX Two... LOL
Instead of releasing new systems why don't they start making upgradeable consoles? that way when they think its time to move on we just buy the parts to upgrade.

Because it's easier to sell a console for $500, then 2 years later sell another "newer better" version of it for $500-650 than it is to allow upgrades.

I would be more suprised if they weren't working on a new console at this stage, and im assuming MS is also working on one aswell.

VBC I do not understand why they are working on it already they clearly have nothing else to do haha

You must not understand technology, Once you buy something such as a phone its already out of date, similar to any technology a gaming system is the same. The "next gen consoles" are already out of date and the next ones are being made. It doesn't shock me at all.

Mickers If its within the next two years can't see many people upgrading.

It will probably be 2-3years from now.

Lia Why are they going to make a new console? The only upgrade they should do is make it 4K graphics.

4k for consoles is way off. Even if it is relatively close you can expect them to be hell of a lot mote expensive and at tgat point you may as well just get a PC.

Yeah, no kidding. But, I doubt that they're going to release a new console any time soon, so maybe by the time that they do release it the price won't be so outrageous.
