Steam Breaks Record for Concurrent Users (Again)

4.6
A few months after topping 9 million concurrent users online, Valve’s online gaming platform Steam has broken the record again. On May 10th during the early afternoon, PST there were more than 9.5 million users logged into the PC service at the same time. You can check out the Steam Stats page which currently reveals a mind-boggling 7,950,851 users online currently.

As usual, Valve’s Dota 2 is the most popular game on Steam. It recorded a peak user count of more than 900,000 users on Sunday followed by Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with more than 548,000 concurrent users.
Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 5 has been gathering its fair share of momentum as of late with more than 173,000 players online concurrently in the PC version.

For all the success Steam has garnered, the service was recently embroiled in controversy over a new initiative to price mods for games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The initiative backfired, leading to mods once again being available for free. What’s next for Steam in 2015? Stay tuned in the coming months to find out.

-Skittle The fact that there are over 7 million users online as I post this comment is astonishing! I never knew that Steam was this widely used!

It's had over 7 million concurrent users for a good year now.

Looking at the download stats as well show that the US and UK combined have downloaded over 26.5 PetaBytes of data, = 26,500 TB, = 26,500,000 GB

Won't be too long until 10 million, give it a month or two i'd say. Great achievement for steam for sure.

Toxicator I don't believe because most of counter strike users have more than 1 account just in case they get cooldown. If they do they can just switch between accounts and play the game without problems. And people get 2nd or more accounts so they can cheat in the game and getting avoided with a ban on their main accounts.

So mi not sure that steam actually broke record having more users on steam or people logging in into different accounts.

You can only sign into 1 account per PC and if you change accounts all running games close. So when they change accounts their previous one would disconnect and not add a dupe player to the list.
