The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited now live, no subscription

4.5
The Elder Scrolls Online has undergone a costume change overnight, shedding its subscription model dress and donning a fetching pair of pay-for-me-once shoes. The freshly renamed The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited has started rolling out to existing players, and once fully available will require just a single purchase before you're given unfettered access to its world.

The move to a Guild Wars 2 style buy-to-play model follows shortly after the MMO received its largest ever update earlier in the month. Update 6 transformed huge swathes of the MMO as it introduced several major additions, including veteran dungeons, the Justice system, adventure zones and party-based challenges. There were some smaller tweaks too, such as the funny cat people having better facial animations.

A new levelling curve promises more power, more quickly, while guilds can now customise and dye their outfits for fashion parades. Here's a launch trailer for Tamriel Unlimited that covers the main features of the game as they now stand.

Those who had been subscribing will now be given the choice of upgrading to an ESO Plus membership, which grants free access to all upcoming DLC, gives a 10% boost to character progression and rewards the player with an allowance of 1,500 crowns per month. Crowns are the game's premium currency, with 1,500 of the things usually selling for £8.99.

Until now, editions of The Elder Scrolls Online cost between £49.99 and £69.99. It's not yet clear whether this price point will change with the launch of Tamriel Unlimited.

It looks like something fun and it is great that it does not require a subscription.

GT-R And I'm just sitting here waiting for TES: VI.

Have fun waiting. Since this isn't an official Elder Scrolls Game they want to see if the Hype for VI is still alive.
