PlayStation Network back online, service restored

4.6
The PlayStation Network appears to be fully armed and operational, according to an update post on the PlayStation Blog. The update confirms that the PSN suffered a DDoS (distributed denial of service) attack on Christmas Eve Day, and though the group that took credit for bringing the service down claimed to have ceased its attack on December 25, it was not until late last evening that service was restored. Sony now reports in no uncertain terms that "PlayStation Network is back online."

If you received or purchased a PlayStation system over the holidays, you should be free to enjoy your new console.

Update: If you're a PS4 user still having difficulties logging in, the Ask PlayStation Twitter account suggests that age-old fix of restarting your system. A tweet reads, "PS4 users: If you are still having issues signing in to PSN today, please reboot the console and try again."

It's just a matter of time before it goes down again... Good to see they've finally gotten it back up though.

-Skittle I highly doubt that Lizard Squad will keep the deal..

I am really hoping they follow through with the deal. It sucked on Christmas when no one could play!

SnowDrops94 im surprised that this was posted now and not 2days ago when the servers came back up but yeah little late on posting

I'm pretty sure that there was still some things offline over the 2 days before this was posted.

Yeah, my friend in Idaho, was just able to get online like an hour ago and my buddy in Canada just now got on. So yeah services weren't fully up and running for everyone. Also to other people, Sony actually took their servers offline on the 26th to address the issue and fix it a little faster because having people continuously attempt to get on was slowing them down and then they turned them back on later that day on the 26th so they could test and run checks and speed up their software. When you run into server problems like that and it's almost impossible to fix when people keep trying to get on the best thing you can do is shut the servers off and work a few hours on them before going back online to ensure the servers are safe first. After the reboot that's when you have people go in and fix networking errors and patch up security protocols and imply new coding to secure the servers WHILE people are accessing it because it allows the administrator to see how the servers are reacting to incoming packages. So believe what you may, but Sony knew what they were doing, unlike Xbox which did a quick fix and didn't fully resolve the problem so something tells me that once someone figures out their quick fix they could attack Microsoft again.

Pint They have only just got everything back up and running ? Expected better..

The only reason the past 2 days it was down was because Sony where trying to make it more secure at least that's what I've heard, I know that Lizard Squad stopped DDOSing them towards the end of Christmas day.
