BBC iPlayer app launches on Xbox One

4.6
The BBC iPlayer app has finally arrived on Xbox One a year after the console launched.

The iPlayer app has been available on PS4 since the system's release in November 2013, when the BBC confirmed that it was working on an Xbox One version.

Available as a free download from Xbox Live, the on-demand TV and radio service is controllable with a pad, Kinect voice commands and SmartGlass.

As of October, programmes on most versions of iPlayer are available for up to 30 days after they air, compared to the service's original seven day catch-up window, which is still the only option on Xbox 360 and Wii.

The iPlayer app was released on PS3 in 2008 but didn't come to Xbox 360 until March 2012.

The delay was partly down to the BBC's refusal to place the app behind an Xbox Live Gold paywall due to its commitment to ensure its content is not provided commercially.

Microsoft dropped the Xbox Live Gold requirement for entertainment apps in June 2014.
