PS4 sales hit 13.5 million

Worldwide PS4 sales have reached 13.5 million units.

Sony said on Friday that it sold 3.3 million PS4s during its second financial quarter ended September 30, up from 2.7 million in the first quarter.

The company sold 4.5 million PS4 units in the console's opening quarter, and three million in the one after.

PS3 sales totalled 800,000 units during the most recent quarter ended in September, while portable console sales (Vita, PSP and PS TV) came in at 700,000 units, down 100,000 from the same quarter last year.

Sony's Game and Network Services division posted sales of 309.5 billion yen (£1.7b/$2.8b), an 83.2 per cent increase year-on-year, primarily due to the contribution from PS4 hardware sales.

PS4's introduction also helped the division swing from an operating loss of 4.2 billion yen in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year to an operating income of 21.8 billion yen (£122m/$195m).

Results for the company as a whole weren't as positive, with Sony posting a net loss of a136 billion yen (£760m/$1.2b), compared to a loss of 19.6 billion yen in the same period last year.

However, PS4 was cited as a key contributor to a 7.2 per cent year-on-year rise in sales to 1,901.5 billion yen (£10.6b/$17b).

DeluxeHazard Even though the PS4 is outselling the XB1, congratulations to Sony by the way, the XB1 is slowly creeping back up in sales. Just a month ago the XB1 finally outsold the PS4 in a monthly period.

It actually didn't outsell the PS4, that was simply predicted by an analyst. The analysts had a horrible track record and was wrong, the PS4 has outsold the Xbox one for 9 months running.

Actually the PS4 did out sale the xbox one.....

But that was a one month period and even when averaging numbers, the Wii U and PS4 are selling more monthly than the Xbone right now. Microsoft really needs to do something big besides dropping another 50$ off the console price to get more people to buy their console and service.

No surprise that it has sold more than XBOX, it is by far the superior console in my eyes. I get much more enjoyment out of it.
