Call of Duty Advanced Warfare's boosters changed maps

4.7
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's boost jumping mechanic meant some familiar multiplayer map design needed substantial rethinking.

Sledgehammer Games co-founder and chief creative officer Glen Schofield told Digital Spy that the single-player and multiplayer teams collaborated on the game all through its three-year development.

That meant interesting ideas from one mode could be implemented in another. It also meant big changes from the other side could uproot some established parts across the aisle.

"[Maps] took two years because first, you get to design them the way you know, then you're playing and playing constantly [to make sure they're balanced]," Schofield said.

"Then as the boost jump started to solidify more, then it's like, 'Oh, they can get on the roof.' You just can't go back and add that. You got to design. We ripped parts of the level out and rebuilt it."

Sledgehammer had the time to go back and make those changes because of the series' new three-year development cycle, Schofield said. The game will launch with 13 maps, not counting the Atlas Gorge map available with the Collector's Edition or season pass at launch.

The single-player campaign's expanded narrative will also reflect the extended development schedule.

The Call of Duty Advanced Warfare release date is November 4 on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Knih Does this jump thing or exo suit stuff even matter? 98% of CoD players play public and public is just full of dumb people who will just sit in a corner with no clue how to use their exo or even try and jump.

I have no worry for anything new because 99% of public players won't use them or even try. They're gonna sit in a corner and hide for their little 1.1 KDRs they've spent all game starring at a wall for.

There will be a non-exo playlist, so I assume all those "dumb people" will go there. I know I will be, because the exo doesn't appeal to me in particular.

hopefully there are some good designs it does get a bit boring with the same kind of maps every year or so.

Kurumu Really not sure if I want to slap my pre-order on this or not. Every year it seems that COD attempts to claim the same crap. "New maps, advanced ai, new weapons, etc. etc." How about for a change they release a beta and let us test the damn game and give them feedback.

I guess I need to go to a damn convention to test a game before I blow my money on it.

blow your money?? its hardly breaking the bank...

I see both sides to that argument, on one hand it's not a life breaking amount of money but it all adds up to a lot! I said for the last 2 that I wouldn't buy them and I ended up buying them anyway, and enjoying them actually! I prefer CoD for the competitive side of it, so all of those who cry about getting killed by 8 year olds who do nothing but trash talking - mute them and learn to play properly!

Why do they need our opinions for their games? Call of Duty has a terrible reputation but still it's one of the most bought games every year.

You got so many people asking for a drastic change, now they bring one they all moan!?

Simple way around it: You wanna buy it? Buy it. You don't? Then you can't comment on how the game is without ever playing it, so please shut up!

This game doesn't have as much as hype as I thought it would. I mean I am eager to get my hands on the game but I am not going to die over it.
