PlayStation Plus fees increase in multiple regions

4.5
PlayStation Plus subscription fees are on the rise in various regions, Sony confirmed. "We slightly increased prices for PlayStation Plus in South Africa, Ukraine, Russia, Turkey and India regions due to various market conditions," a representative told Joystiq via email. "Currently, price adjustments are not being planned for PS Plus in the SCEA [North American] region."

The confirmation follows a report from iAfrica that stated subscription costs were due to rise within 24 hours of email notifications sent to PS Plus subscribers. The emails reportedly stated that "the price of a three month subscription will rise from R145 to R219" as of today ($12.88 and $19.46). The change represents a 51 percent increase in the three-month PS Plus prices. Additionally, a second email seemingly noted a change in the annual PS Plus costs in South Africa from R489 to R749 ($43.45 to $66.55, a 53 percent increase).

MoCap Well, this will be getting much negative feedback I can tell

Mostly because people on here don't understand simple principles of economics. Because of the falling dollar value of those countries currency, PSN was actually cheaper there than elsewhere. Sony inflated their prices seeing as the dollar values in those countries hasn't risen in forever and are actually expected to continue to drop.
Sony is covering their butts. They adjusted the price so it is higher now but will eventually fall in line with other countries values. There is nothing wrong with readjusting yourself based on the poor economies of other countries. (i.e. selling something for 7GBP isn't the same as selling it for 7USD.)

That's unfortunate for those regions. Maybe in due time when market conditions stabilize the prices will drop back to normal.

Tactical_Luck_Gaming Ha, Xbox live has cost the same since it was released...

Not really, back in 2010 the cost was $7.99 a month. Now its $9.99.

And really, I see these increases as necessary.

Who the hell buys it off the console? I get XBL for 2.50 a month off Amazon.

XBL for 2.50 a month off Amazon proof? I smell bs.

That's if you pay monthly. The cost for a 1 month, 3 month and 12 month never changed.

Yeah this is just crazy I see no point in all this

So they increase the fees for what? All we get is 'PSN Under maintenance' around twice a month or psn gets ddos'd. Increased prices to get that all the time, what a joke.
