CoD: Advanced Warfare Likely To Sell Less Than Ghosts, Says Analyst

4.4
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is expected to sell three million copies less than Call of Duty: Ghosts, according to Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia.

As Cinema Blend reports, the analyst projects that Sledgehammer Games’ debut Call of Duty project, due out this November 4, will sell 17 million copies in quarter four of 2014, which is down 15% from Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty title that sold 20 million in quarter four of last year.

With $1 billion sold into retailers at launch, Call of Duty: Ghosts still didn’t quite manage to top sales generated by Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in prior years. Publisher Activision chalked up Ghosts’ dip in performance to stiffer competition and the awkward transition to next-gen consoles.

Fans of the franchise weren’t all too enthusiastic about the direction Ghosts took the series in either.

Bhatia says that while continuing consumer indecision about upgrading to next-gen hardware may still factor into sales, Advanced Warfare does have the chance to out-perform its predecessor thanks to a lack of competition this year. With Battlefield Hardline moved to a Spring 2015 release, Advanced Warfare’s only possible concern is the Xbox One-exclusive Halo: The Master Chief Collection, launching one week later on November 11.

Our first impressions of Advanced Warfare were very positive, but it sounds like it’s going to take some solid reviews and good word-of-mouth to give Advanced Warfare the boost it needs this Fall.

What’s your outlook on Call of Duty this year? Are you more excited for Advanced Warfare than you were for Ghosts? Or, are you reserving judgement until after launch?

I really am not surprised by this, COD:Ghosts was a major flop and still to this day I regret spending all that money on the hardened edition just to sell it for half the price less than a week later. COD:Ghosts is a cancer within the FPS community, period. This is coming from a COD fanboy, I have loved every Call Of Duty (some more than others) but as a whole, I have never hated any of them until of course they farted out Ghosts...

Roll on Advanced Warfare :D

-Fail Screw what anyone else says I'm hyped for this game. Whatever can get me away from playing Ghosts. And for those people that want original CoD back, why don't you just go play those games? Stop complaining about the new and just live in the past.

Yeah, let's all stop complaining about ho awful CoD is doing and go play all the old CoDs that's full of 12 year old kids just hacking so it's unplayable! Fail has it right!

No. People are sick of CoD going 300 years in the future every time a new game comes out. All the old, good, original CoD players can have their say about it since we've been in the franchise from the start. All you new CoD players who joined around Mw2/Black Ops can't say a lot since you don't know good from bad.

The fact you still get hyped for a CoD game and out of the hundreds of other games to play, only ANOTHER CoD game will get you away from a CoD game. You're a CoD nerd. Your point is invalid.

I dont know what you are talking about. Im not sick of them going 300 years in the future because they never have. But honestly i have played every cod from the first one. hell CoD 3 is my all time favorite. but i am still really excited for this. i was excited for ghosts but disappointed but i still enjoyed it and played the hell out of it. there hasn't been a CoD i have truly disliked enough to say it was terrible. they are all great games and each has something for someone different.

Lol why are you saying he's a "new" CoD player? I've played since CoD 4, and I'm also hyped for this game.

You're not thinking too well. CoD has covered wars from the years 1900-2000, there's no more wars they can cover, without going in the future.

You call him a CoD nerd, yet you're the one trying to imply you've played more CoD games than he has xD.

ODST Both Sledgehammer and Viseral are having to clean up the mess of their predecessors. Hardline and Advanced Warfare are both gonna suffer at first thanks to the skepticism that follows a terrible game like Ghosts or the super buggy launch of BF4, but if both games are actually as good as they look, they will be the type of games that have a growing base of players during all 4 quarters rather than dropping numbers.

well hardline looks and the beta was terrible. its not worth 60$ it should be a add-on for bf4 at 20$ now bf4 is fun but buggy as you said. aw looks bad people flying all over the place? come on man
