Battlefield Hardline multiplayer is 'going to work' at launch

4.4
The online aspect of Battlefield Hardline will not suffer the same issues as Battlefield 4 at launch, according to its creative director.

Visceral Games' Ian Milham told Game Revolution that Hardline is already benefiting from Battlefield 4's post-launch travails and ensuing updates.

"What you're basically asking is, 'Is your game going to work?'", Milham said, "and the answer is yes, it's gonna work.

"We actually started on this more than a year before Battlefield 4 came out. We've been working with the DICE guys for a long time; some of our engineering work is actually in Battlefield 4 and things they've been doing since then. It's in pretty great shape now and all that work is gonna come into what we're doing.

"We already had one very successful beta, we're going to have another beta on every platform we ship on. We take shipping a working game pretty seriously. So, yes, the game will work."

Battlefield 4 was met with a hostile reception from fans of the series after it launched with a number of multiplayer problems. By two months after the game's release, DICE was forced to suspend all DLC development until it could address the issues.

In June, EA CEO Andrew Wilson labelled Battlefield 4's bungled launch "unacceptable", promising that EA has made a number of changes to development processes in order to avoid a repeat situation.

"For me, the situation we had was unacceptable," he said. "For the team it was unacceptable. We have worked tirelessly since then to make sure the gameplay experience got to where it absolutely should have been at launch and we're focused on that and we continue to deliver value to that player base."

Originally planned for release this October, Battlefield Hardline has been pushed back to early 2015, with DICE VP and group GM Karl Magnus Troedsson saying the studio plans to "continue to optimize the game for a stable launch" after having "learned a lot from Battlefield 4".

Tygaa This game is going to be horrible just how Battlefield 4 was i hope they actually work hard on it

Did you just contradict yourself or are you actually trying to be a jerk. Don't call the game horrible without playing it and don't knock it till you try it. Also, you say "i hope they actually work hard on it" yet you somehow already know the game is "horrible", your comment in general is horrible.
Hardline is having to clean up the mess of the buggy BF4 launch and you're the kind of people they are having to tailor to. "Oh the game looks like BF4 with a re-skin!" or "oh BF4 sucked so automatically Hardline is gonna suck too!". Your kind of comments are the reason why games can't advance further and tailor to the actual fans. You exploit what's overpowered from the get go and troll others after your attention span of 10 matches passes away. There's more work on patches and hotfixes because we can't move forward and progressively develop game content. You see a tank, you throw C4 on the tank and use it as a suicide vehicle wasting what is suppose to a teams vehicle for your own personal giggles.
Thanks for doing the gaming community a grand service by being a "part" of it.

I can imagine this is an empty promise they can't fulfill. Especially considering they can't keep their current servers protected from 5 teenagers who call themselves the "Lizard Squad"

Hardline cant be no where near as bad as Battlefield 4 at launch, lets hope. The big thing is keeping the game great after launch. Continuing to update the game and staying on top of all the exploits and bugs will make Hardline overall a better game.

Battlefield has turned to barely changing, I hope they fix it.

Battlefield 4 was a terrible game if that happened or not. Even if they did fix the issues, I'm sure Hardline will be just as bad as I know they're not going to change much.
