Xbox 360 owners deserve more games, Spencer says

4.6
Xbox head Phil Spencer says Microsoft is obligated to support Xbox 360, meaning the company does not plan to cultivate games exclusively for Xbox One in the near future.

Spencer explained why the company isn't dropping all of its efforts elsewhere to focus on boosting Xbox One's first-party lineup of games in an E3 interview with Metro.

"If you bought your Xbox 360 a year and a half ago, I think we have an obligation there," Spencer said. "We're going to sell millions more Xbox 360s before this generation is done and when people make a £100+ commitment to us, they're gonna come in and buy an Xbox 360, I want to make sure that there's content for them."

Investing in the new generation is important, Spencer said, but not everyone has bought an Xbox One yet and Microsoft knows abandoning those consumers would be a poor move.

It's part of a delicate balance, because a strong first-party line-up is a good way to encourage third-party developers to compete on the system. But creating a good feedback loop isn't the only thing on publishers' minds.

"For a third party this is the nice part of the curve for the last generation, because you've got millions of people out there and they want to sell content that these people will buy," Spencer said. "They also want to kickstart the new generation successfully, so you'll see a lot of them doing a little bit of both."

I'm one of those people that still own and play a 360. I for sure know that I would be pretty upset with them if they completely stopped doing anything for the 360. Not all of us can just go out and buy a One when we feel like it.

Thank god, we've been missing out on a lot of good games.

I was worried that all of the new releases would be exclusive to the next generation consoles. Nice to see Microsoft supporting those who cannot afford the next generation consoles yet.

Yeah, it would be a so called "poor move." Glad they plan on supporting the 360 for a long while. They don't need to just throw it away, because people are still wanting a 360, and some people already have one. And they don't want to upgrade to next-gen.

I love this idea! Xbox One has been getting all of the awesome features in games. Xbox 360 users do need more "games". We don't don't need necessarily more games, we really just need more in game features that the next gen consoles have. Not everybody has $500 to spend on a gaming console :/

yeah ok ms you think its cool to port games over to us xb1 owners who just payed 500 bucks and get nothing out of it? not only did i pick up a ps4 im selling my one and not renewing live and i think plenty xb1 people are disappointed with not getting what we payed for 6 months ago.

Us Xbox 360 owners have plenty of games to choose from. They should be focusing on making games better and actually making them next gen. I don't think xbox 360 needs anything else, besides better free games of the month.

FaIIen They need to focus most of their efforts in the Xbox One. I didn't pay 500 for the next generation of gaming that has no games.

I completely agree. What is the point of getting a next gen console then? Yes, someone might have gotten there 360 a year ago, but we just bought something that we have been looking forward to for a while now. 360 doesn't deserve more games, Xbox One deserves more exclusive games. I didn't buy the One just for better looking graphics.

Before I read the article I disagreed with what the title said. Now that I read it I completely agree with Phil Spencer. If I just got an Xbox 360 I would be kinda mad if there weren't any new games coming out for it.
