Kinect was evaluated for mass surveillance by GCHQ

3.9
Leaked documents have revealed that the UK intelligence agency GCHQ was evaluating the viability of utilizing the Xbox 360's Kinect camera for mass surveillance. This comes on the heels of news that the agency had collected secret webcam images from almost 2 million Yahoo users without consent. According to documents the Yahoo spying program lasted only six months but little seems to have been gained from it.

However, we're concerned about any reports of governments surreptitiously collecting private customer data. That's why in December we initiated a broad effort to expand encryption across our services and are advocating for legal reforms.Microsoft

When asked for comment regarding this matter specifically Microsoft officially stated that they "had not even heard of the program.

How do you feel about a british intelligence agency performing these kinds of acts?

As I see it, the government doesn't care about anything. All they want is to get information on people even if they are harmless. Invasion of privacy is getting way out of hand these days with the NSA, FBI, and other departments of the security force.

Dorkus I would never leave my kinect plugged in. I always unplug it so I won't have to worry about being recorded.

Oh bro shut up.. most of you are a bunch of little kids commenting just to get your post count up. You guys have no clue about this story other than reading a short article on it.. most of the comments here are "That's why I leave my kinect unplugged or I don't trust the government or this is the reason why I wont get an Xbox One". YEAH RIGHT... Stop worrying about your post count and actually GO READ REAL NEWS.

Thank you!!!! I've been trying to tell these idiots for years.

Couldn't Agree More. Most people do just comment on News just for post counts. Thats the main reason i dont read pass the 3rd comment.

Some people actually care about their Rights... So what? I have nothing to hide? There goes privacy, then rights.

So true, shame the British people are too stupid to do anything about it en masse.

Not really a fact that "we're too stupid". It's more down to the fact we can't attack a government based thing which involves what they call 'security'. Britain has opened its doors to too many immigrants, so in my opinion it's not really to spy on people; it's for security against terrorism. I bet you there are easily over 1000+ terrorists among the UK population - literally. To seek asylum in the UK is easy. If you're an immigrant, you can easily say your human rights are being violated in your current country and before you know it, you get a house where 10+ people of their family can live, courtesy of the public fund. Tax payers, prepare you wallets!

So you actually believe the crap the government say about 'Terrorism'? Did you know that RIPA laws were brought out to combat 'terrorism' but has been used for trivial stuff like to police dog fouling and school catchment areas, yeah government overreach is rife in the UK.
