Steam - Developers now able to self discount their games

4.6
It has came to light that developers can now enable sales for their games on the Steam platform without consulting Valve itself as was required in the past.

According to a developer on the steam subreddit via Valve's private Steamworks community page, it appears developers are now to perform sales anytime. In the past developers have been required to coordinate with Valve in order to set up weekly promotions for their products. Currently all developers need to do is configure their Steamworks page for the title in question to enable discounts for possible customers. Though it was added for developers today it appears that the system is not 100% working as some devs have spoken out publicly that they themselves have experienced error with the feature set.

How do you feel about developers being able to perform sales on the fly?

I love the picture, this seem like it would be very beneficial for stream's customers so that's cool that they're doing this.

Holy shit, this will be insane! I don't think games will be normal price ever again!

I think this seems like a good idea for developers. I don't know if it will make a huge difference is how many sales we see but it might get developers to do more spontaneous sales.

More sales are gonna be coming. The July sale this year is probably going to be blown up with cheap games. Stoked for that most def.

What if they made it so you could get 1 free discount a week, that would be awesome!

Liability I can see how this will be great for the developers. Instead of steam reducing the price without their consent, it will make both companies happy along with the gamer.

They can't legally discount their games without prior consent. All this is doing is cutting out the go ahead from Valve.
