Facebook started the ill fated @facebook.com email service way back in 2010, it gave users the openness of chatting and sending emails via Facebook Messages. The service never really gained true momentum even while being available to over one billion active users, this stunning failure is not slated for discontinuation. The email service lacked many key features found in other web based email services toted for years; the service was never taken seriously by many.

The Facebook email service is set it be phased out in early March with users being informed formally on-site first.
Well why would you even email anyone? I thought all you needed was the IM service on Facebook, and if they weren't on you could just text or call the person you don't need to email them, that is pointless.
I've never seen anyone using @facebook, it's hard for a new mailing service to dominate already because we have gmail.
but I think it's a correct step to retire the service, it would save a lot of money.
