Irrational Games down to team of 15

4.7
BioShock dev Irrational Games is being axed to just 15 employees. The company's co-founder Ken Levine announced this scary news in a update via his studio's website.

I am winding down Irrational Games as you know it. I'll be starting a smaller, more entrepreneurial endeavor at Take-Two. That is going to mean parting ways with all but about fifteen members of the Irrational team. There's no great way to lay people off, and our first concern is to make sure that the people who are leaving have as much support as we can give them during this transition.Ken Levine

He went on to say those let go would still have access to the studio in order to say their goodbyes and prepare their portfolios. He went on to mention that there may be opportunities for them within the Take-Two family. Ken stated that Irrational Games is moving forward ""to make narrative-driven games for the core gamer that are highly replayable."

BioShock is one of our most beloved and critically acclaimed franchises, and we are indebted to Ken and the talented team at Irrational Games for their contributions to the series with BioShock and BioShock Infinite; the latter being one of the most decorated games of 2013. The BioShock universe remains a rich creative canvas for many untold stories, and we look forward to exploring the next BioShock experience.2K

Int 15 staff for a game studio, not very good if you ask me.
Amen to that. But remember, studios like Mojang only employ up to 40 people...

yes but 40 people working on a game over 15, and still minecraft isn't that big of a game compared to others,

Not very good for all those who are going to be let go. I don't understand how they will work with only 15 employees. How many people will they be letting go?

daRealRush Sucks for all the people getting laid off. 15 people just don't sound like enough though. :/

Maybe this is just me but I feel like a smaller team of people is a lot better for narrative or story driven games because it allows the company to be closer together so they all know what is going on and it is easier for the company to act on things they like or dislike probably a really good move on their part and wish the best of luck to the people that are getting laid off.
