Cheaper Xbox One set for 2014 release, report claims

Information contained in forum 'leak' verified by multiple publications

A new, cheaper Xbox One SKU will be released in 2014, a growing number of reports have suggested.

The claim first emerged via a whistle blowing NeoGAF post, which suggested that Microsoft is planning a new $399 Xbox One model, possibly minus a physical disc drive.

nformation contained in the post has since been verified by multiple publishing sources cited by CVG, The Verge and VG247, that latter of which credits "trusted publishing partners" as verifying the new Xbox One SKU, which it says will be cheaper than the current $499 USD / £420 model.

Although the original NeoGAF post states the new Xbox model may be released without an optical disc drive, this has not been verified by any publication.

It has also been claimed that Microsoft will be releasing a white Xbox One in October, to tie in with the release of Sunset Overdrive, as well as a special Titanfall edition of its new console in March. The white Xbox One rumour has been backed up by sources cited to tech site The Verge.

Zinx They should just offer a version without the Kinect. I don't want that crap.

Same, I will never use kinect. Paying for something you will never use, not liking it.

Regardless, I'm still going with my gaming PC.

I agree, this would be cheaper though and Microsoft love their money.

I hope they come out with xbox's that are faster and more powerful overall. I guess they can't do that anymore probably only when the next xbox after the one comes out.

Aggie Just think. minus the blu-ray drive that takes the price to $399, but wait minus the kinect, holy crap $299. Let that soak in.

It wont be $300, neither the blu ray nor the slow 500 GB HDD is worth $100.

Hundreds I sincerely doubt that they will be releasing a cheaper version so soon. If they do it would HAVE to be stripped of some features like the Kinect and possibly the optical drive. Which makes sense because as of right now it costs Microsoft $471 just to make a single unit. If they do release a cheaper model in 2014 you bet your **** it will be towards the end.

If the cheaper model does indeed lack a optical drive it would end up costing you more over time. That means $60 per game the rest of your xb1's life. No buying games on sale at gamestop, no buying used games, no selling games, and eventually your hard drive will fill up very fast and thus forcing you to either delete games or buy an external hard drive just your xbox. The xb1's hard drive is full after 300 something gigs, and with all decent games weighing in at over 20gb+ that won't hold very many.

Wow that is an amazing point

Everything you said is right, except your Hard drive will fill up just as fast with disc games. There are now required installations so you use the same amount of storage.
