Xbox One led December's U.S. console hardware sales with 908,000 units

Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One was the best selling console in December in the U.S. The company revealed that, according to figures from the NPD Group, the Xbox One sold 908,000 units in the U.S. during the last month of 2013. Microsoft announced in early January that it sold over 3 million units worldwide by the end of 2013. Microsoft had previously said that the Xbox One sold 909,132 units in November in the U.S., which means that the console sold 1,817,132 units just in the U.S. in the last few weeks of the year.

Microsoft's blog added that the eight year old Xbox 360 managed to sell 643,000 units in December, which put it at the number three spot on NPD's sales list. The combined sales of both consoles claimed 46 percent of the U.S. console hardware market in December. The amount of money spent on Xbox hardware, software and accessories reached $1.39 billion in December in the U.S.

According to Gamesindustry International, overall retail game sales in the U.S. went up two percent to $3.28 billion. Call of Duty Ghosts and Battlefield 4 were the number one and two best selling games in December, according to NPD. For 2013 as a whole, retail game sales (hardware, software and accessories) were down two percent to $12.97 billion in the U.S. and that Grand Theft Auto V was the best selling game of the year.

IlBubblezlI I don't know how that's possible! The Xbox One seems so overpriced.

a 100$ difference does not make a difference honestly. Especially to an avid 360 player who wants to keep his account he may have had for 10 years.

Seriously. It is 100$ more, but thats not a ton extra to pay. I mean, this is a console that you are going to use for a few years to come, so a 500$ investment isn't such a big deal.

^ This honestly does not surprise me. I know so many people who got both when they got the Xbox One, and many people telling me that BF4 just looks stunning on the Xbox One. Congrats to Microsoft for these sales, seems to be going the way they wanted it to go, if not better.

I agree with you. Most of my friends that got the Xbox One got BF4 and Ghosts. I mainly play BF4 though.

conmaster550 3 million consoles

That is 15,000,000,00

That is a lot of money..

You do realise that the system costs around $490 to make... and they are making money from games...

471 actually. The PS4 is 381 so the Xbox is making more profit per console.

I don't know... I think MS would charge more than a ten dollar profit
