Sledgehammer staffing up for 'next-gen Call of Duty game'

Studio seeking to fill positions across multiple disciplines for unannounced title

Sledgehammer Games is actively recruiting in a bid to strengthen the development team working on a next-gen Call of Duty game.

Earlier this week, parent company Activision posted more than ten Sledgehammer job adverts across a range of disciplines including art, design, animation and engineering. Multiple job ads note that the studio is "working on a next-gen Call of Duty game".

Formed in 2009, California-based Sledgehammer originally worked on an unfinished third person Call of Duty game before being drafted in to help Infinity Ward complete Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

While the nature of its new game remains a mystery, Sledgehammer general manager Glen Schofield told us in October 2011 that he thought the studio would work alone following its MW3 collaboration with Infinity Ward, the studio primarily responsible for 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts.

"This game has allowed both Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games to hire, and we hired really strong teams, both of us," he said. "We needed to come together on this one, but since then we've both grown, we're both over 100 people now.

"Initially we weren't fully functional because we had to learn a new engine," Schofield added. "Now we have, I think the best thing that could happen for Activision would be for us to both go off and make our own game. Whether that's a Call of Duty game or not is up in the air. I plan to continue working on Call of Duty."

Oasis I'd rather they didn't tbh. MW3 was a mess. Plus we all know 3arch will be releasing a new game this year (if they can find time in between making dlc for ghosts).

You do know Treyarch didn't make Ghosts right...?

You might want to check the credits. Treyarch did have a part in this game, why would 3arch be credited on ie Xbox 360 version if they didn'. Plus it doesn't take a genius to work out who worked on the dlc, just look at the trailers, there's nothing unique about it.

The only thing Treyarch did was porting Call of Duty Ghosts to the Wii. They didn't do much on the game, let alone create it. That's what my initial response was getting at.

I wasn't saying they created it 100% but you can bet they had a bigger part to play than you think. For one, IW still wasn't up to it even this long after half the staff left but Activision knew there was money to be made on a IW branded cod because they were still riding on the legacy of MW2. Why do you think Sledghammer worked on MW3? And why are Sledghammer are recruiting for the next cod (2015 after 3arcs turn this year)? Because still now IW needs help. But units wouldn't sell as well if it only had Sledghammers logo.

This is exactly what's wrong with the cod community a lot of people are blinded by some lost cause for brand loyalty. No offence, just been around a while long enough to see the patterns that struggling game designers leave behind.

I'm not trying to cause an argument btw, just good debate ;)

CoD isn't going anywhere anymore, but they still keep making them.

Like a TV show, Skins for example, it was really, really popular.
But they stopped making anymore because they'd just be repeating the same thing from previous years, even though they'd still get loads of ratings, they cared about it.

Activision on the other hand; money money money money money

I dont know if you realised. But the multiplayer from mw3 was made by sledgehammer. And that was good. So this new cod should be good too

Guffaw Worry about ghost not about the next one wtf

Sledgehammer has nothing to do with Ghost.

But yes I would love to see them rotating every three years.

One year IW, Treyarch, and then another year for Sledgehammer. more time equals better games. I cant wait.

Hope they don't make it like Ghost. Make it like MW2!

I just really hope the next one isn't going to be as bad as ghosts.

The company really needs a break then they need to produce a game that they've worked on for like 5/6 years!
