Activision to host 32 teams competing for $1m in prizes

Activision will host its second Call of Duty Championship from March 28 to 30 in Los Angeles, the publisher announced Thursday.

The championship will draw 32 teams from around the world to compete for a total of $1 million in prize money. Players will compete in Call of Duty: Ghosts on Xbox One, with qualifying events in leading months held online and in person by international eSports organizations.

Regional tournaments and the finals will be broadcasted live on MLG.tv from late February through March.

Team Fariko Impact took home $400,000 USD in prize money after besting EnVyUs at last year's championship, which was also held in Los Angeles with a $1 million prize pool.

Infinity Ward has promised several impending adjustments to the game meant to improve its competitive play experience. The studio said Ghosts' spawning system is a particular area of development focus aside from thwarting cheaters and rebalancing weapons.

Kex $1m in prizes is a bit much for winning CoD games ain't it?

I think it is only $400k but the topic was set out wrong

It's hard to believe gaming can earn you so much money, it's probably what motivates MLG enthusiasts.

I wish the article reminded everyone that the grand prize is 400k, not 1 mil. 1 mil is divided up into the appropriate places of who won what place in the tournament.

I dont rate any of these players apart from 1or2 i have watched them live and they play like any one else.

Why would it be a bit much? You get more for being an Olympic Swimmer.

Quilava Im thinking EnVyUs will win it

Well they have Scump now, I think Rambo should replace Merk for this one.

Man if Whiteboy is serious to get in this tournament I swear he will lose to FaZe :/. Anyways this is going to be intense also many teams are going to practice more longer to win this. I wouldn't be surprised if complexity wins this.

mfw dota 2 international 3 first prize $1,437,190 USD and total prize pool was $2,874,381. ti1 and ti2 (the 2 valve comps before ti3) each had a 1.6 million prize pool with first place 1 million. Not $400,000 like CoD.
