Call of Duty: Ghosts sales decline 'troubling', says analyst

4.6
Call of Duty: Ghosts is displaying a 'troubling' decline in sales versus its predecessors, according to an industry analyst.

Activision has said previously that it expects Ghosts sales to be down on last year's Black Ops 2 due to the upset of the console transition and they were; November sales showed a drop of 19 per cent year-on-year. But Cowen analyst Doug Creutz has warned investors that the declines could be notably worse than the reported 19 per cent dip would suggest.

"Upon further reflection, we think the [Call of Duty] numbers are a bit more troubling than they first appeared," said Creutz, reports VentureBeat.

He went on to note that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Ghosts released almost two weeks earlier in November than Black Ops 2 (November 3 versus November 12 respectively), offsetting a portion of the sales drop which would have otherwise been far worse.

"While the year-over-year gap is only 19 percent thus far, that includes two extra weeks of sales for the 360 and PS3 versions [versus Black Ops II]. Against 2011′s [Modern Warfare 3], where the difference is only one week, the title is down 32 percent life-to-date," said Creutz.

The PS4 and Xbox One versions arrived later in the month, but failed to make up the sales deficit.

"We don't think it is out of the question that the title could wind up comparing down 20 percent to 25 percent year-over-year [to Black Ops II], which is appreciably worse than the down 10 to 15 percent that we think is baked in to guidance," predicted Creutz.

Despite its declines, Activision's FPS series is still in good health; Call of Duty: Ghosts was still the top-selling game in North America in November, according to NPD Figures. It's main rival, EA's Battlefield 4, came in second in the all-format software charts.

CHP as much as i like cod, it has definitely gone down.
and ghosts in my opinion felt like the final straw for most people

I hope Ghosts is the last cod. It's gone too far now and people aren't enjoying it anymore.
I would be happy if they revived MW2 and WaW

We need this game to come out to USA and xbox and ps4 and all hope in cod will be restored www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj9vVnAsXL4

No wonder there is a decline in sales, Call of Duty has been getting worse since 2009. I think Call of Duty is finally dying.

I just don't think IW titles are as popular as Treyarch's.

sir_greco lookin at all these comments and laughin my rear end off at all the ppl saying its the same game. well no sht. the very first 3 words are... "Call" of" and "Duty". What did you expect it to be? a racing game? a game about princesses? seriously ppl. its a first person shooter that is truly famous for its fast online gameplay. so they revamp that every year keeping the core of it the same. do you ppl even think about what your saying? its like complaining that the 2013 Ford truck is the same as some 2014 Ford truck. obviously it is. its gonna stay a truck. theyre not gonna change it to a motorcycle and call it the 2014 Ford truck.

You are right. The fact that makes this series stale is it's yearly release. Hopefully a new FPS is born that actually caters to the skilled not the casual crowd.

I personally dont mind the yearly refresh. The reason I havent really played a cod sinve mw2 is because they took away the reward of playing it. I loved haveing to unlock the gun. Get 150 kills to unlock the acog, then 20 with the acog to get thermal. Then have to get 250 headshots with each gun to get all the camos. There was always something to go for. Now in gohst, unlock the gun and now you can get all the attachments instantly, what is the point? Plus what happened to the challanges, accolades, emblems, and titles. That is what needs to come back.

Good. I am ready to see the downfall of the entire series. It's been bound to happen and it's only a matter of time. There are just far too many games FAR superior now.

ghost is by far the worst cod made. i've played them since cod 2 on 360, and to me cod4 was by far the best because it required straight up gun skill and was simple. Not all the fancy attachments and killstreaks to help out the newbs so they can stand a decent chance on playing with the more skilled players. not to mention there is basically no difference in hardcore and normal mod you still get dropped to 2 bullets with the ak-12, remington, and honey badge. honestly i never would have thought that infinity ward would make such a terrible game to ruin the franchise i always thought trey-arch would be the one but i guess i was wrong

Casbah I remember when they thought they would do as good as GTA 5.

They earned 1 billion in 24 hours while GTA took 3 days lmao
No. They sold 1 million dollars worth of games to retailers, which isn't too many...

1billion is 1billion
