Nintendo will fail to reach sales goal for Wii U in 2013, say analysts

Nintendo has no hope of meeting its 9 million unit sales target for the Wii U in 2013, according to several analysts.

Speaking to Bloomberg, two analysts have suggested the company will not sell the 9 million Wii U units president Satoru Iwata promised in October.

"They steadfastly refuse to consider that the product is not interesting to consumers," Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter said. "They will fail to hit 9 million, and they will likely miss their profit goals.

Meanwhile, SMBC Nikko Securities analyst Eiji Maeda says the Wii U is flagging because it has become too niche.

"Wii U has become a game console only for Nintendo fans," Maeda said. "Wii U needs groundbreaking software to draw casual and hardcore gamers."

Pachter predicted the Wii U will sell 6 million units in the fiscal year ending March 2014, while Maeda predicts 6.5 million.

During Nintendo's second fiscal quarter the company shifted only 300,000 units, bringing the global total to 3.91 million units.

The Wii U's performance is sorely lacking compared to the Xbox One and PS4: UK PS4 sales outstripped Wii U's lifetime total in only a matter of hours.

Industry analyst firm DFC Intelligence predicted in November that Wii U lifetime sales will reach 25 million units, or around a quarter of what the Wii achieved.

ATTRELLA Nintendo needs to change it up a bit, they are trying to make a middle aged console and its not workout out really. I feel like parents will buy their children the DS and then when they grow outta that the kids usually either want to go to Xbox or PlayStation. Never really a Nintendo Wii...

They are falling behind

Nintendo has the resources to create a console that could compete with MS and Sony.

I just don't understand why they don't.

I really feel bad on Nintendo.

Nintendo really need to start changing their consoles else they're going to continue to miss their targets. 300,000 units in a quarter is terrible, I'd like to see Nintedo progress but to do that they really need to start listening to what the community wants.

I think that Nintendo is slowly going under, besides a few good game titles.

I wasn't really expecting them to reach their sales goals in the first place.. the Wii U hasn't been doing very well in the market at all

xxRider702xx They could make so much moeny if they brought back the N64.

I agree.
There are many people who pay way more than retail to bring back old times.

They wouldn't even have to mass produce it and they would still out sell the WiiU.

I agree. People will pay for the nostalgia feel.

That is proven.
People are paying double to three times retail of what the N64 was.

They must have some pretty low standards then
