Xbox One launch biggest in Australia’s history, says EB Games

4.6
Xbox One released overnight in Australia, proving the most successful console launch the nation has seen to date, accoridng to one specialst retail chain.

“We’re proud to announce that this was officially the biggest launch in Australian gaming history,” EB Games Australia merchandising director Shane Stockwell said in a press release.

“EB Games has been operating in Australia for over 15 years, and we have never seen anything remotely like this before – it’s an extremely good time to be a gamer.”

“What we’re seeing here is absolutely unprecedented. When you’ve got literally thousands of people showing up to hundreds of stores across the country, you know that the gaming industry is a bigger deal than it has ever been before,” national brand, event and engagement manager Debra McGrath added.

EB Games expects demand to outstrip supply “in a few days”.

“It is looking very likely that we will be sold out of stock extremely soon,” Stockwell added.

EB Games opened 317 stores nation wide for the launch last night, and Microsoft lit up various Sydney skyline features in green. No sales figures have been released yet, so it’s not clear whether Microsoft the Xbox One set a sales record or whether EB Games’ comments refer to attendance at launch events.

Of course, there’s another bid for the sales record just a week away; the PlayStation 4 launches in Australia on November 29, when it also rolls out to Europe and selected further territories.

It seems like the hype for the Xbox One is bigger but I could be wrong.

I just feel like a lot more people are looking forward to the Xbox One.

Xaldin keeps getting more expensive and yet more and more people come. The industry is definitely growing

Are you kidding? In 8 years the console hasn't gotten much more expensive, Xbox 360 was $400 when it came out....IN 2005 0_o . Playstation 3 was $600. But eh, $500 for 10 years of fun isn't too bad of a tradeoff?

You forgot to include the prices of online services, new consoles when the old one break down and microsofts like "lol we don't know what to do with it", and game costs. $400 for "10 years of fun" is a bit broad of a statement.
