PS4: some HDMI issues can be attributed to metal piece in port

4.5
Users experiencing issues with PS4 preventing an HDMI cord from being plugged in all the way can now fix the issue easily, according to Kotaku, which experienced the same problem.

According to the site, the HDMI port itself was the issue, not the console, due to a piece of metal not being flush with the bottom of the port.

Because the metal piece wasn’t square with the entry point, it kept the HDMI cord from being plugged in all the way. It would also damage the cord in the process.

The fix: press the piece of metal down so it’s no longer sticking up; plug the cord back in and it works.

The cause of the problem is unknown, but sounds like a manufacturing issue, and it is unknown if users other than Kotaku have experienced the same issue. But, it’s better to be safe than sorry – so check your system to make sure if you are having HDMI issues.

Sony acknowledged on launch day that there had been “several problems reported,” and nothing singular impacting a broad percentage of systems. The number of affected systems represented less than .4% of shipped units to date, said the firm, which is “within our expectations for a new product introduction.”

Sony Worldwide boss Shuhei Yoshida said at the time the issues were “isolated incidents” and last night EA suggested several gameplay issues being experienced were due to PS4 firmware update 1.50 before retracting the statement as being posted in error.

CRM TBH there shouldn't be problems sony are pathetic.

Seriously? just because it's the PS4 and is rated better then the Xbox one doesn't mean it's going to have problems, every new product does. Most problems are caused in the manufacturing process or by the new owner of the product. The same will happen when the Xbox one comes out, guaranteed.

Not denying the fact that Xbone will have problems but it probably wont do any of the following

Overheat
Red line
Fix the HDMI to shape

The list goes on...

This is where sony fanboys start saying "sony just want to involve their users and make them feel like they had a hand in the finished product"

Or its a rather piss poor oversight on sonys side, all consoles release with issues but usually internal/software issues not a piece of poorly done metal on an important port.

EstablishedGaming They should have used gold plated connection to avoid this issue.

That makes no sense at all. Silver, Copper, Gold and all other metals are great conductors Using gold would be no more effect, but far more expensive. Remind me to never go into business with you!

How would gold plates have prevented this?

Every single product has problems. It is life.
