Activision to continue supporting Wii U

4.4
Activision publishing boss Eric Hirshberg has said the firm plans to continue supporting Wii U and that if the company can add to the platform’s appeal it “absolutely will”.

Speaking in an interview with CVG, Hirshberg said Nintendo has been a great partner in the past, despite some of the company’s hardware “hits and misses.”

“Nintendo has been a great partner for us. It’s had hardware hits and misses in the past, but it has always found ways to remain completely relevant,” he said. “It has some of the best game-makers in the world, and I wouldn’t count them out.

“Nintendo is a very successful company but obviously having a rough go with the Wii U launch thus far. I’m sure Nintendo and the rest of the industry wanted a different result for the Wii U, but if we can add to the appeal of the platform then we absolutely will.”

Hirshberg said success for Wii U, and all companies for that matter, are integral to the industry as a whole and he wants to see everyone succeed.

“I want all of the great games in this industry to succeed because more people will be playing games and that’s better for all of us,” he said.

One of Activision’s most successful franchises, Skylanders: Giants, was released on Wii and Wii U alongside PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2012 and its follow-up, Skylanders: Swap Force, will also release on Nintendo consoles in October.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will also be released on Wii U in November.
