Nintendo 2DS out Oct. 12 for $130, plays all 3DS, DS games

4.5
The Nintendo 2DS is a new handheld in the DS family due out on October 12 for $130, in red and blue. As its name suggests, the 2DS plays all 3DS and DS games, but in 2D. It's a solid piece of hardware, no hinges, with dual screens the same size as 3DS screens, one circle pad, a camera, a single speaker and standard DS face buttons. Nintendo calls the 2DS "an entry-level dedicated portable gaming system."

Nintendo describes the 2DS as follows: "The system features a distinctive fixed, slate-type form factor .... Nintendo 2DS maintains many of the same hardware features as Nintendo 3DS: dual screens, game-play controls and touch-screen features. The system also has backward compatibility with the existing library of more than 2,000 Nintendo DS games, as well as access to wireless connectivity features like multiplayer online game play, fun Nintendo Video content and great digitally delivered games in the Nintendo eShop."

Mortar Whilst I don't really see much of a point in this, it will probably outsell the Wii U. When it does, perhaps it will make Nintendo realise that the Wii U should be laid to rest. As for the 2DS being solid and not compact (Being able to be folded ect like the 3DS), I think that is a bad point as it means that it is larger and has to be carried in bags ect. Before with the 3DS, you could simply slip it into your pocket.

They should stick to making handheld consoles its better for them this may sell out but all the memes I have seen of this being a door wedge has made me laugh so hard.

Nintendo will always do good with handheld consoles, the games on there are better in my opinion. Plus with Pokemon X and Pokemon Y coming out, that will sell for Nintendo on either 3DS or 2DS, whichever people will use for that game and other games.

It would be nicer if the whole device was red or blue and not just the back.

I guess Im 50 50 with the design, mostly due to the button layout, I think they should of kept the buttons in line with the bottom screen. If you like the design of this hand held go for it, the only difference is no hinge and no 3D.

That's the best way to describe it

Nintendo seem to be trying everything now. What's the point in a 2DS?
