Call of Duty versus Battlefield 'is good for the industry', says EA

4.3
The battle between Call of Duty and Battlefield for supremacy in the shooter market is a healthy thing for the industry, and one EA hopes to win later this year when the latest entries in each series go head-to-head.

Asked if Battlefield 4 can outsell Call of Duty: Ghosts, EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau told CVG: "Look, we are absolutely going for it. It's a competition and we feel really good about Battlefield 4, and we have an old saying at EA which is 'transition is our friend', and we're going to try to lap them with new technology, new innovation and new capabilities. So do I think we're going to do better than last time? Absolutely.

"When we started this challenge, back with Bad Company 1, I think the ratio was something like 95/5, so we pushed and pulled to get that figure even," Gibeau continued. "Something I learned from the EA Sports business - with regards to FIFA versus Pro Evolution and Madden versus 2K - these fights are good for the industry. They're good for customers. Competition drives innovation, and from our perspective some people snigger at these two companies going head-to-head but actually it's good for our industry, it's good for customers and it's good for our dev team."

EA's Medal of Honor series has been taken out of rotation, but Gibeau told us other franchises will step up to take on Call of Duty in non-Battlefield years.

"The shooter rotation we think about now is Battlefield, Titanfall and Battlefront, and so we like those three brands going forward," he said. "We're working out how we're going to line that up because that's what you'll see from us. With regards to Medal of Honor, you try things in entertainment and if they don't work you try something else. From our perspective, Battlefield 3 and Battlefield Premium continues to grow."

Miku I really hope the Cod players buy it then they will realize its way more fun but harder at the same time.

I want that . . . but I don't. All the squeakers will go to this game where, most of the time, I can have a good conversation with a mature person, sometimes even use some tactics that we both know. I hope the squeakers think it's too hard and go back to CoD.

Yes. I have the same mentality on this. I left Call of Duty for that main reason. I don't want to go back to the same crap.

I think BF4 will be a better game overall because of the insane 64 player online.

Boar One thing I forgot to note, a lot of Cod players will move to BF4 and ruin that game a bit with their rushing and Cod tactics, it happened on BF3 and I hope it doesn't happen on BF4 again.

They will most likely be cannon fodders and be easy XP. Besides, on a 64 player server i don't think rushing will work unless it's a large majority of the team.

Don't get me wrong they are easy XP, you don't know how many times someone has tried to dropshot me on BF and just failed giving me a free kill.

Rushing is a tactic used in all online shooters.
I'm pretty sure you'll prefer to go into a bomb site in rush or a flag in conquest as a group and lockdown the are quickly to get the objective opposed to going in by yourself with another person and more likely then not, getting killed.

Unlike cod, battlefield rewards team play. In cod, your team can win a game if one or two people carry the team. But in battlefield, at least half your team has to play well depending on how good the other team is.

Also, if people from the cod community jump on battlefield, they can try and use there cod tactic such as run and gun, drop shot, quick scoping. And they will not have a good time, since the way to play battlefield is as a team/objective player and they will adapt to that.

For example, my mates and I decide sometimes on maps like campaign boarder or Kharg we just roll around in jeeps and capture the flags and only ending up getting a dozen kills or so. But finishing with a very high score, due to playing the objective.

Exactly, while Cod players would strap on the most overpowered gun and run around only looking to up their 'K/D' when in BF that doesn't even matter really.

Serjtankian CoD is better and always will be. That's my opinion and my opinion is the right opinion.

Cod is a child's game.
Battlefield is a mans game.
