Sony 'looking at a PS4 sell-out situation'

Sony Is anticipating a PS4 sell-out at launch, with PlayStation UK boss Fergal Gara claiming the company's struggling to satisfy pre-orders.

On Tuesday, when Sony announced a PS4 release date of November 15 in the US and November 29 in Europe, the company said more than one million PS4 pre-orders had been placed worldwide.

And Gara told OPM the figure is "higher than we've ever seen in 20 years".

"The problem with pre-orders, which is a good problem to have, is that they're very, very high," he said.

"As an ex retailer myself I understand this at least as well as anyone else: we need to help retailers manage the expectations of their customers and not let them down. And that is why we advise them that, from August the 5th, they should not guarantee anyone they will get their unit on day one".

"We are going to be looking at a sell-out situation and chasing demand, it's a problem, it's kind of a good problem to have, but it is a problem and we're trying to manage that as responsibly as we possibly can."

PS4 will be available in 32 countries this holiday, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House said on Tuesday.

the demand is well over the supply you cant just pump out over a million ps4s in a day


In a day? Is November 15th tomorrow? They still have 3 months to mass produce these consoles

They have been quite cocky with insults but I don't think it will blow up in their face sadly.

I hope that they will be able to start coming up with way more consoles some where but on the actual launch day I don't think that they will sell out everywhere. They already have consoles reserved for the launch day to buy at stores without a pre-order.

Ampz I find it crazy that both new consoles can't even reach the pre-order demand. I guess it's a positive thing.

Cocky? Why for saying they may have a sellout situation I think they are stating that so people know they may not be gaurenteed a console at launch.
OT: I think it was always going to happen not just with PS4 but Xbox One as well, I think they should have prepared a little better as I think they estimated far less than actual demand would need.

I remember when the Wii came out and everyone flipped out about it. Their was not a single Wii in my town during Christmas. These next-gen consoles look like they may be doing this also.
