Xbox One will accept current-gen hi-end gaming headsets

4.7
Xbox One will accept current third party headsets via the use of an adapter, following earlier reports the console will accept only bespoke Xbox One peripherals.

The confirmation comes via Microsoft lead planner for Xbox One Albert Penello, who responded to queries via Twitter.

Asked whether an adapter will be available for "current gen hi-end gaming headsets to work on the Xbox One," Penello answered in the affirmatiive.

"Yes. We will have an adapter that allows current gaming headsets to work."

Penello also confirmed the adapter will not be bundled with the console, but will be an accessory sold separately.

Reports from May suggested that Xbox One's proprietary data port would not be compatible with current-gen headsets.

At the time, a Microsoft spokesperson said the company would share details on how third party peripherals will work in the future.

"We are working with 3rd party headset manufacturers to create new headsets that will take full advantage of the Xbox One technology," the rep said.

Penello also confirmed overnight that Microsoft is "looking into" bundling headsets with the Xbox One.

CyberPunk Im sure some other users maybe wondering is this , but for people with wired ASTRO headsets (not sure on other brands atm) but they run off optical cable, since its so widely available on TVs etc , will the xbox one end up with an optical port like on the slim? or you reckon we could be sneaky and get around it with a tv that has a optical port and just feed off that?

From what I have read the Xbox one will include an optical port like the one on the slim. So we should be able to get audio off of that however for chat you still need the cable connected to the controller which the adapter should do just fine.

Aggie I sure hope they will allow the Turtle beach x31s.

They will, that's definitely considered high end.
Besides the fact that i'm pretty sure those are not considered high end aren't those wireless? How will an adapter work with a wireless headset.

Item Even if Microsoft do overcharge for the adapter, you will be able to get a cheap one thats been remade off ebay.

There are many headset adapters out there that will probably be compatible with it anyways.
