Microsoft secures Xbox One domains following dispute

4.7
Microsoft has secured ownership of the domain names XboxOne.com and XboxOne.net following a dispute with their previous holder.

Fusible reports that Microsoft was successful in its bid to take control of the domains after it lodged a complaint with the National Arbitration Forum in late May.

Microsoft pursuit of the domains was aided by The Richard Law Group, which also helped the platform holder secure XboxPhone.com and XboxTablet.com last year.

Fusible notes that Microsoft has become the first company to secure the matching dotcom domain of its next-gen console.

PlayStation4.com re-directs to PlayStation focused games website PSX Extreme, while Playstation4.com is owned by Poise Media Inc.

Nintendo recently failed to secure the WiiU.com domain name after filing a cybersquatting complaint.

Microsoft has confirmed that Xbox One will be available in 21 markets this November. The Xbox One price has been set at £425 / €499 / $499.

As part of a sweeping restructuring plan at Microsoft, former Windows chief Julie Larson-Green was last week named boss of the Devices and Studios Engineering Group, which encompasses all hardware development, including Xbox.

Foolish
Ted- I wonder how long ago the domain was registered, It couldn't have been before the console got released.

It was apparently registered back in 2008. Someone probably just thought of future Xbox names and secured on of the domains.

wow well that person is lucky

RATF how much did they pay for it?

Nothing. They own the right's to Xbox. Anyone who takes domains with those names can pretty much be taken down in court. Although for instance it would look bad publicly and hurt the fan base if they started taking all the websites.
