November 2006 update[edit]
An update patch released on November 1, 2006 was reported to "brick" consoles, rendering them useless.[72] The most obvious issue occurs after the installation of the patch, after which the console immediately reboots and shows an error message. Usually, error code E71 is shown during or directly after the booting animation.
In response to the November 2006 update error that "bricked" his console, a California man filed a class action lawsuit against Microsoft in Washington federal court in early December 2006.[73] The lawsuit seeks $5 million in damages and the free repair of any console rendered unusable by the update. This is the second such lawsuit filed against Microsoft, the first having been filed in December 2005, shortly after the 360's launch.
Following Microsoft's extension of the Xbox 360 warranty to a full year, from the previous 90 days, the California man's attorney confirmed to the Seattle Post Intelligence that the lawsuit had been resolved under confidential terms.[74]

lol.

It only took Microsoft approximately 6.5 hours to fix the problem. Pretty sure that beats Sony's time.

Don't get why there is even an argument here, Xbox Live goes down for 50% of users on rare occasion and is back up within 12 hours. PSN goes down for 100% of users for multiple months. Microsoft wins go back to your Poor Station News

Please see my previous post, Microsoft aren't quite as infallible as you'd like to think.

It's worth stating at the point that, while I am slightly biased towards Sony due to previous experiences with the 360 console, I am by no means a "fanboy". I haven't been a member here long, nor have seen as much of the forums as most of you have. From what I HAVE seen, the vast majority of the time it is the Xbox "fanboys" doing the ****-flinging... usually with very mistaken "facts". I just let them know where they are wrong.

On the other hand, if I were to see a PS3 fanboy say something like - "Apart from YLOD, the PS3 hasn't had any other hardware failure." I would point out the fact that X amount of ps3 owners have suffered a failure with the Blueray drive, though this appears to be more down to wear and tear than from poor quality.

It just bothers me that there seems to be this "Microsoft is invincible" attitude floating around when, from what I've experienced and researched, the truth couldn't be more contradictory.

I partly agree with 2014. Go to your PS4 and PS3 news. Quit trying to start arguments on the Xbox news.

Fair point, however Microsoft hasn't always been so quick - or so thorough for that matter...

"New Xbox Experience" update issues[edit]
On November 19, 2008, Microsoft released the "New Xbox Experience" (NXE). This update provided streaming Netflix capability and avatars; however, some users have reported the update has caused their consoles to not properly read optical media.[1] Others have reported that the update has disabled audio through HDMI connections.[78] A Microsoft spokesperson stated the company is "aware that a handful of Xbox LIVE users are experiencing audio issues, and are diligently monitoring this issue and working towards a solution." Microsoft released a patch on February 3, 2009 for the HDMI audio issues.[79]

There are some parts I'd like to emphasize here -

1) On November 19, 2008, Microsoft released the "New Xbox Experience"

2) Some users have reported the update has caused their consoles to not properly read optical media.

3) Others have reported that the update has disabled audio through HDMI connections.

4) A Microsoft spokesperson stated the company is "aware that a handful of Xbox LIVE users are experiencing audio issues...

5) Microsoft released a patch on February 3, 2009 for the HDMI audio issues.

So not only did it take Microsoft almost 3 FULL MONTHS to release the patch, the patch that they eventually released only fixed half of the problem.

In the interest of fairness, this is only from one source and therefore might not be an accurate representation. Also, neither console manufacturer is perfect.
