Ouya founder on unfulfilled Kickstarter orders: 'I am pissed'

4.8
The Ouya launched for the public today, and things at retail appear to be going pretty well – Amazon, at least, sold out early on. But Ouya founder Julie Uhrman is "pissed" because some Kickstarter backers haven't yet received their consoles, and she promised they would arrive before the retail version went live.

Uhrman says she delivered the backers' consoles to her distribution partner in May, but some orders remain unfulfilled.

"I am pissed," Uhrman writes in a Kickstarter update locked to backers only, seen by Games Industry. "Some of you have not yet received your Ouya, and to you, I apologize. I did not promise to ship to most of you before we hit store shelves. I promised to ship to all of you. I've been reading your comments, and we are working to solve this."

Ouya Head of Operations Ken Stephens says backers should expect their Ouyas in 15 to 17 days, as they're shipped from Hong Kong.

Joystiq Reviews Editor Richard Mitchell got his hands on an Ouya Kickstarter model in April, and he found it to be worth the price – noting that it costs $99. He's now playing with the retail model, and he says it's an improvement on the initial version.

slapshot101 At least we know someone who cares is at the head of this company. I think this system might take off in the future, with a bit higher specs.

It defiantly has the potential to eventually take of. It all comes down to how the company pulls it off
That's true, it wouldn't hurt to invest in a bit of marketing as I have not even heard of the system up till the day before launch and that was just in a single thread on TTG.

It's the same with me. I knew nothing of it until a few days ago. Some marketing would really help the project sell.

A_Box_Of_Mints I want to see improvements on this, I saw a beta test video of this a few months back but I would like to see some serious increase in the techs I believe this product has some potential!

i dont, why make a console for apps that are mostly free on a phone? plus so many consoles coming out including the steam box which sounds amazing.

'i am p!ssed' haha, anyways, my mate got one and said it sucked, every app on the console is on ps apparently.

Gossip Looks like a very bad version of the gamecube

It's basically for apps...

Really? Doesn't seem worth it to me then.

Yeah it's pretty stupid. I would rather use my phone

-Trippyy i would be mad to if there were supposed to be consoles sold to people that paid for it and it didn't show up when promised because that could get bad ratings and company rep

But things happen. Yes it will seem bad on the company but people need to also understand that not everything can goes as planned. There might be shipping issues, weather problems or any number of things.
