E3 2013: PS4 online multiplayer requires PS Plus

4.7
Online multiplayer on PS4 will require a PS Plus subscription, confirmed in the above video produced by Sony demonstrating physical disc game sharing on PS4.

Existing PlayStation Plus members – or even those who sign up from here on out – will find their subscription extended to PS Vita, PS3 and PS4. The PS4 launches Holiday 2013 for $399.

KarmaRambo This is a big step for Sony in my opinion.

This has always been something Sony had over Microsoft, and now that this is gone, the Sony fanboys will need to find a new thing to celebrate. The always-online and DRM issues won't last for that long, Microsoft will probably prepare an announcement to change things.

PS4 has better technical specs. And have fun being stalked by a ubiquitous kinect.

And here we can observe a Sony fanboy in his natural habitat.

The specs really don't mean anything in this day and age, each system will have it's weak points, did you even watch the Sony press conference yesterday? Bungie's new game, Destiny, began to freeze up on the PS4, you can't really talk about specs until you've played the systems, bro.

Also, please do your research, Microsoft have already said you can turn Kinect 2.0 off, you have a switch on your wall, flick it, and the Xbox is no longer in standby.

Gossip HAHA now you have to pay for the PS4 online! This was a big reason why people liked the PS better than the Xbox.

Agreed, but I personally still like the exclusives on Playstation more than Xbox, I really only like Halo that was about it. But I enjoy, Uncharted, God of War, and Kingdom Hearts a hell of a lot more.

So it's going to cost about the same as xbox live gold but it has more features. Microsoft needs to step up their game.

Xbox One -- 500$ :c

Thanks for this, a lot of members in the forums were confused about this.
It's also $5 a month but they have yet to tell us a yearly subscription fee(If there is one) for the long term gamers, which in turn will be better value.

I mean it really doesn't bother me, since if I was going to get an xbox one I would have to buy a subscription anyways.

ZombifiedPandaX So now people can't use the "Online is free haha Xbox sucks" excuse anymore.
