Xbox One to cost $399, PS4 for $349 says Pachter

4.4
Xbox One will retail at $399 at launch, while PS4 will run you $349, according to Wedbush Morgan Analyst Michael Pachter.

GI.biz reports that Pachter made his predictions in a pre-E3 address to investors today, during which the analyst placed the PS4′s build cost per console at $275, and added that the Xbox One will cost $325 per unit.

Pachter added that Microsoft may still consider a subscription-based Xbox One model at cheaper cost, which backs up rumours of a $299 version.

In the address, Pachter added, “We believe the ability to watch live TV from a cable, telco, or satellite set-top box through Xbox One could entice an MSO to drive subscriptions through a subsidised box in exchange for a multi-year contract. The ‘always connected’ requirement for the Xbox One likely means that a broadband connection will be required, suggesting to us that ISPs may have an incentive to offer a subsidy as well.

“In addition, Microsoft could conceivably subsidise the Xbox One through prepaid Xbox Live Gold subscriptions (as it has done on a limited basis in the past) or premium Skype functionality as well. Similarly, Sony could subsidise the PS4 through prepaid PlayStation Network subscriptions, but unlike Microsoft, it does not have a history of doing so.”

What do you make of the prices above? Do they make sense or are they too expensive? Let us know below.

Although I've been a loyal Xbox fan for a few years now, even having had a PS3 (it broke...)

I think I might be pushed over to the PS4, it's cheaper, and reading an article from a few days ago it's cheaper too.

Although having said that, I'm too busy with college and potential employment that I might not even have time for either. Lmfao.

Red-Bull There is no way that can be correct? Sites such as amazon have already listed xbox one for 599 and also $399 = 261. Even the xbox 360 wasnt that cheap when it was first released i dont think

HarmfulMushroom Why are you guys upset about this? This is the most reasonable price possible... If it's too expensive for you go get a job now and save.. I was honestly expecting $500 and wouldn't have been the least bit surprised at $600. And I'm guessing you forgot about how the 360 launched at $400 a unit as well...

Yeah, the price is reasonable.. I was expecting a much higher price, and I would still buy it.

I'm just suspicious, $399 is the same as 250, the Xbox 360 was 300 on it's release and the technology is a little bit better now (Not as good as PC though) so we may have several other charges, heck for all we know they will charge us for using the internet on it!

SweetTealsGood 399 dollars isn't that bad! It has a blue ray DVD player, 500 GB HDD, a built in wireless adapter, comes with a controller, and has Kinect 2.0!

Yeah a PC with these specs HP/Dell would charge about $800-900

WTF are you talking about, 500gb is almost a standard in all modern 2012+ computers now so throw that spec out, all modern laptops have built in wireless adapters but not most desktops so half way throw that spec out, laptops have a trackpad and unless your buying just a tower most desktops come with a mouse so 3/4 throw that spec out, and the Kinect is a piece of **** so throw that spec out and what do you have? A blue ray player, which is available to get on both laptop and desktop for under $900 so 3/4 throw that one out. I'm not defending Pc gaming or Console gaming i'm just saying your price estimates are incorrect.

PC gaming is better but I prefer Console gaming as many people do too. Downside of PC gaming is that if you want to experience it the way is suppose to be you have to spend more than $800 in a Desktop. Now what Potion said is true I haven't seen a laptop or desktop for less than $800 from hp or Dell. You are totally wrong, unless, you getting confused with a custom build one.

You never want to buy a pc that's already built. Build it yourself ALWAYS becomes cheaper and is much more sufficient because you know what's actually inside the pc.

Definitely! A PC is way cheaper if you build it from scratch, so long as you know where to buy, that is!

Pretty good price for what you get with it..

I'm liking the price of the ps4. Since microsoft has pissed me off more and more with every announcement they've made, i'm definently switching to sony. Especially if it's cheaper.
