Xbox Awards voting suspended following 'security breach'

4.5
Microsoft may have only announced its inaugural Xbox Entertainment Awards yesterday, but the service has already been hit by problems.

According to MCV, the voting site was the victim of a security breach which resulted in the names, gamertags, emails and birthdays of 2,892 entrants being posted online. Those accessing the site were also reportedly able to edit or remove the listings they saw.

Shortly after this, the site was taken offline for maintenance, while MCV was provided with the following explanation by Microsoft: "We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with the Xbox Entertainment Awards landing page and have taken the site offline while we investigate."

This is hardly the first high profile breach in recent times and the extent of the damage isn't yet apparent. We've reached out to Microsoft for comment and will keep you updated as the story develops.

TomClancy I love how Microsoft failed and people are still bashing PSN just because they got hacked first.

Xbox live did not get hacked. A website owned by Microsoft did.

I don't think xbl has ever gotten put offline before because of hackers

It did a couple of days or so after the Xbox360 was first released.

I feel that was because of high traffic volume not foul play, as for the news post the information taken does not seem to serious but website hacking is a growing problem and where I see it justified in some cases it seems to be the next "hacking" trend with 12 year olds going about it just to be cool.
