Larian Studios head Swen Vincke has revealed that Baldur's Gate 3 was originally going to have a much-needed "big moment" for Wyll that took place at a war college.

Although Baldur's Gate 3 is, without a doubt, one of the most popular games to have come out of this generation, that doesn't mean that it's completely free of flaws. One of the game's most recognised issues within the BG3 community is that there's not enough content revolving around Wyll, especially when compared to some of the other companions.

It seems that Baldur's Gate 3 was originally going to provide a much more satisfying conclusion to Wyll's character arc and give him a much-needed "big moment". During the "Secrets of Baldur's Gate 3" panel at GDC 2024, Larian Studios head Swen Vincke revealed several interesting details about the game's development and content that ended up being cut, such as Astarion originally being a Tiefling and Larian originally wanting multiple dungeons masters.

During the talk, Vincke revealed that there was originally going to be a "big moment" involving Wyll at a war college. Vincke didn't go into any more detail on what that big moment might have involved or why the war college was cut from the game, but it seems like it could have alleviated some complaints that Wyll's character arc isn't as satisfying as the other companions.

In the final game, Wyll's questline finishes in Act 3 just like every other companion. He does have a big character moment towards the end of the act, but some fans have found it unsatisfying because it's not really something to do with him and is instead just a quest that he's been given, something that goes against the other companions having more personal quests.

Vincke didn't reveal enough about Wyll's cut "big moment" in the war college for us to know if it would have had a big impact on his character arc, but having more content that is focused on him absolutely wouldn't be a bad thing for Baldur's Gate 3 in the long run.
